scooter touring advice
« on: July 12, 2012, 07:40:35 PM »
at the moment I have kymco agility 50 and downtown 125i but I'm on selling downtown and buying 200-500cc scooter.
I'm planing to make a trip from belgrade to hvar(croatia) about 1.800km round trip and I would like your advice on what is the best for such a long trip, performance/comfort/fuel consumption....

I have several options:

1. Kymco downtown 300i - 2011 - 8.500km - my downtown 125i trade in
2. Yamaha x max 250 - 2008 - 15.000km
3. Piaggio Beverly 200 - 2004 - 27.000km - italian import
4. Piaggio Beverly 500 - 2006 - 23.000km - italian import

I apprecate your advice, thanx  ;D

Don't like the K's on the last two, the Yamaha sounds like a good mix of quality and performance and #1 as my 2nd choice.

Yeah, I would agree with 08 -- both look like great scooters, though I'm a big DT fan. Which ever you decide have a great and safe trip, and post any pictures or video.

yeah, thanx guys
that is also what I was thinking: downtown 300i or yamaha x max 250
those two beverly's are in so so condition. color and plastics are faded of italian sun and high mileage so it needs a lot investment for trip.
though prices are ok, 1.150 eur for 2004 200 and 1.900 eur for 2006 500, both negotiable

I would like to change make just to try something else, but I'll stay with kymco  ;D
downtown suits my needs just right, just I need some more power so I'll go on DT 300i and it's a trade in

I'll try to take and post some pics after I come back ;D

The BV 500, it's got the power and weight you'll need for such a long time in the saddle. The smaller machines will be operating at the top end of their performance, and you can feel the strain after a while, so go for the comfort that is afforded by power and weight.

Check out things like personal fit of the seat and handlebars, leg room, mirrors, brakes, all the things you'll be using a lot, and go for the most comfortable fit.

Fuel consumption can be managed by driving style, so I don't think that would be an issue of concern, they're all very efficient.

The 300i would be another good choice, it's a little lighter and still has nice power, and unless you're touring forever, it would be well rounded for your riding when you get home.

I have an Xciting 250 and an Xciting 500, and the 250 is more fun around town, but the open road is unquestionably the domain of the mighty, mighty 500 X, especially with a the big Givi windshield. It's got a quiet, easy ride that eats up the miles, and the kilometers don't even register.
