Synthetic oils are more resistant to breaking down under high temperatures, even when diluted such as in the synthetic blends. They are also supposed to maintain viscosity and flow better. Supposedly they further reduce friction and are purer than regular oils due to some impurities that cannot be removed by the refining process. Thats the tech answer, over the years I have moved to blends then to synthetic oil because on my regular bikes I found that shifting was smoother with these oils. I could literally feel the difference. That tells me the oil is lubricating better and there is less friction. For the price difference it's the cheapest insurance you can buy to have the comfort that you are reducing friction (better performance, longer life, better gas mileage) and when it's really hot in the summer knowing your oil will not break down. Which brand is best? I used to run an auto service center and sold oil. I use whatever meets the specs and I can find at the best price. All of these modern synthetics and synthetic blends are good, just pay attention to the specs and know what your scoot manufacturer requires. I am sure there are some real technical types on the board that can give a better answer and would welcome the input.
Jim, as far as this weekend to Indy, we will head up on 31 and come back via 135. 135 is one of my favorite rides when we go from Louisville up to Nashville, IN. It is a great bike road between Brownstown and Nashville. We have more time coming back and will take the longer way. Going up we have to make a bit better time. It's 120 miles from my house to my sisters up in Mooresville. My wife will be riding along on her Aprilia S500GT which does not quite take the curves like the X500 and is a bit more sensitive to crosswinds,so I have to take it easier than if I was going by myself. We'll have to get together and put on some miles this summer. I have a number of scooter riding friends and we like to get together and ride when we can. Not real organized but we have a lot of fun.
Can you tell, it's a slow day at the office. Everyone is taking off for the weekend and I can't leave cause I have two appointments after 5 PM today... I would rather be out riding on a day like this...
