Locks ... Trunk and Front Compartment
« on: July 31, 2012, 06:28:21 PM »
I would like to replace the compartment locks with a regular twist knob. Anyone done this or have an idea?

Check out this flickr gallery, this guy did something like this, pretty good idea EXCEPT I hope he changed out he lock because it seems you could just pull this out from the glove box and start the engine with it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/psculptures/5581040416/#

What is your purpose?

Install a small power door lock actuator and you can unlock your compartment with just a push of a button.

Wire it with your acc switch so that it can't be operated with the engine off. This way, you need not replace your locks and still use your key to unlock the compartment. Look for the smallest size actuator.

I want to do the same. So annoying having to kill the engine and remove the key to gain access to the glove and underseat compartments.

How about using a duplicate key?

Thanks Dolemite! That is exactly what I'm going to do. I mostly wanted access to the front compartment so I could adjust iPod or GPS volume, plug or unplug into the outlet without shutting the bike off. Nobody would suspect it was a key for short stops and if you have to leave the bike somewhere for a long time you can just take the key/button with you.
