Oil Service Light

I did a search here, read the posts and am still having a problem with re-setting the service light.

i've read and re-read the manual section describing how to reset the light and am obviously doing something wrong.

the illustration in the manual indicates that i should be seeing the numeral "1" and by holding down both the mode and adjust buttons it should reset to "0". I've taken that literally - in other words only a "1" or a "0" are displayed.

After reading the posts on the subject some of those who've posted are indicating that the oil service indicator actually records the mileage (just like a tripmeter) and that i may be toggling right past it while looking for the "1" to show up.

So should i be looking for a number that indicates mileage?

hold adjust like they say. this changes gauges from mph to kilo's to nothing that should read around 600 some miles. hold both buttons on that reading and the miles will go to 0 and light will go off. make sure you adjust back to mph.

My slant on this is the buttons MUST be pushed and held at EXACTLY the same time. 1 usec difference will NOT reset the counter and will NOT turn out the light. The oil light will not illuminate until about 600 + miles. You will be resetting this to zero. I currently do NOT use 600 miles for an oil change interval so I use that counter for gas interval: how many miles between fill-ups. I use the trip odometer for, well, TRIPS. That way, the pesky oil light never comes on.

Just an update to this for others.

Turn on your key,
Hold down the 'adjust' button
It will switch between 'odometer', 'trip', and what they call the 'oil service meter', so if you are not on odometer or trip, then it is on oil service meter.

Then push and hold both the 'mode' and 'adjust' buttons until the service light goes out and the miles on the display reset.

i sat on the bike, manual in hand, and followed the instructions. got the clock set and it was 32 minutes off. since i'm pretty good with math, i mentally subtract 32 minutes from what it shows and call it good enough.

to tell you the truth, not sure, i thought after resetting that the number on the display was zero, so no more intervals, you can probably change it to whatever you want, i would think it acts like a countdown timer, but come to think of it, not sure what my display read when i reset it

From the owners manual it looks like every 2000 km or 1200 miles.
Probably the distance those HiFlo filers are good for...

After changing the oil at 300 miles, I reset the oil light.
It came on around 900 miles during a scooter group ride and that freaked me out ;-)
I have now 1700 miles and the light did NOT come up again.
Honestly, I don't rely on that oil light to remind me of the service...

My first scooter was a Honda Elite 80. After driving it for a week the oil light came on.
I thought I didn't have any oil pressure. I checked everything! I didn't get to ride it all
 summer as I was afraid of blowing it up!

I finally called a dealer and they said "It goes off according to mileage, just push your
key into the slot near the ignition and it will go out!". Fun stuff!
