What if I just changed the boss?
« on: August 07, 2012, 01:20:51 AM »
I am getting a new agility 50 on friday. I've talked with the dealer about the OTD price.
But I have not talk to them about if it is derestricted or not or if they will derestrict it without
voiding the warranty. I was wondering what kind of speed I would get if I just changed the boss.
Or do I have to get a new cdi, boss, and jet. As you can tell I am not mechanicly inclined but I
plan on learning how to work on my scooter.

..well, welcome to th forum!..

..and yeah, to get the best oem performance, you do need to do those things...

..the restrictions are in place due to speed laws, not because the scoot shouldnt run faster..

   ;D

..dont know about what your dealer will do..

..also, i have heard some of the NEW kymcos are coming out with the non-adjustable carbs...

..that really sux...

If you plan on working on your scoot you'll be voiding the warranty anyway. And to be honest unless you're made of money and like waiting days to get your scooter serviced it's the only way to go. Just say F the warranty  :). Seriously though you'll save more money in the long run by just doing your own service. If it's a daily driver that is. If you don't plan on putting a lot of miles on it then maybe you should pay the dealer. Just depends. I voided my warranty after my dealer charged me $250 to change the gear oil and spark plug  :D. Never looked back either  :)

Changing the drive boss should get you close to 40 mph. Not sure about the other restrictions on the Agility. I'm sure someone else on here will chime in.

Someone call?  ;D

With the boss and jet you should get 42mph on flats +/- 1-2mph. I would also recommend doing the 3 mods together. You dont need anw cdi, just cut the stock one. In the UK a derestriction costs around £60 at the dealers but if they do it then it should not void your warranty, ask tho. Warranties are great till you read the smallprint, must be serviced by dealer for the warranty period usually at crazy dealer labour and parts prices. In the long run it prob actually cost you more.
Chaos is my co-pilot.

I have a 2012 a 50 that luckily I bought gently used and said screw the warranty...
I couldn't take going 30ish. My 2012 had the tool kit with the new 82jet and smooth boss.
Did that and cut the cdi and never looked back. Well worth the time.

My carb is adjustable and I did need to cut the cdi ... These have been debatable on newer models.

Good luck! Enjoy!

I have not derestricted mine but i decided to do mine own servicing so after the first month i lost my warranty, luckily i have never needed it as the scoot has never let me down not even a faulty bulb in the 14 months i have owned it. i have probably already saved a few hundred pounds in servicing plus i know it is running the best oil as i use castrol 10w40 fully synthetic racing oil....
IF IT IS NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT:)

I talked to the Kymco dealer today. They said after the break in period when I bring it
back for the scooter's first inspection they will derestrict it for $45. I don't think they do
anything to the cdi though. They probably just change the boss. He said it would go 38mph
after they speed it up at the first check up. And the best thing is it does not void the warranty.

You can buy cheap chinese unrestricted cdi's for under £10 ($13) off ebay normally, that way you can fit it and keep the original for anytme it has to go into tbe dealers and keep the warranty since they would never know.
