« on: August 08, 2012, 08:29:39 AM »
Hi all. Would be interesting to compare insuransce costs.

I'm paying around €100 per year for full insurance on my Xciting 500.

How much do you pay?

Yep... They charge for full coverage 20 % of purchase price.
I had full coverage on my ZR-7S the first year; second year my own insurance company declined to give me full coverage even though I did not have damage with the bike or any other vehicle, for that matter.

Racing bikes are very very expensive in Sweden too. Insurance companies don't want them.

I shopped around a bit and managed to get 60% discount at another insurance company, when I switched
2 cars to them too. Ended up paying $600-400 for 4 years that I owned the Kawasaki, and about $200 now
with the scooter.

The regular insurance for the Kawasaki was $400+ 1st year.

More or less, it took more then $1000/year just to keep the bike full insured and on the road, or
almost double of what I was making/month at the time of purchase.

It was an entry-level 2 cylinder bike (even if it had 650cc).

Which brings us to the nonsense I keep reading about in USA where you'd pay 2-3x more for
a bike with plastic fairings (it's automatically a SportBike) compared to the VERY SAME bike
in the naked form.

Think Kawasaki Ninja 650R and ER6n.
Same bike.

Same with suzuki bandits, SV650 etc.

We got our own nonsense for the mandatory insurance too - it's related only to engine size.
A full-on 600cc race-bike like an R6 or R1 would be cheaper to insure then a 1200cc/50hp
cruiser.

I have all my insurance with one agent and the cost isn't too bad. I will eventually check others to be sure what I'm paying for. Attached my paper work and off course all important particulars are blocked out.

In general, a 50cc scooter costs between €150-500/year/full, HD (all customs) €80-?, GSXR etc. €~200-insane.., touring bikes often have special insurances through clubs and BMW/Gold Wings are cheap too. Ofcourse age, where you live, garage or not affect the cost. Larger scooters are in most cases cheap.

In nj, a state that most insurance companies won't even do business, I pay 87.00 a year full coverage on my 2009 People 200. There are only 2 companies in nj selling cycle insurance and they both quoted me the same price.
