scooter won't start
« on: August 10, 2012, 02:39:26 PM »
I just recently bought a used xciting 250. This morning I went out to start it and all it does is click really fast when I hit the start button. I double checked the things I could think of myself. Made sure the kickstand was up, the stop engine toggled in the right position, made sure there is gas...the lights come on so I don't think its the battery.

Has anyone heard of this? Is this a bad starter? I have rode it for 2 weeks no problem and then this morning, this happens. I don't know what to do...CAN YOU GUYS HELP??

Thanks!

The lights do dim when I try to start it though...and it barely turned over once...the next 20 times...just a bunch of clicking sounds

If you have a used bike,  the first item is the battery.  These batteries are only good for 2 or 3 years.
If you take your current battery with you,   The Vendor can usually run a check on it to verify.  I buy at Interstate Battery.   Cost I believe is around $80.00.

I did buy used, but the guy said he had just bought a new one and it is interstate. I have it hooked up to a battery charger at a 2amp pace. So we shall see by tomorrow. The needle did jump really high when I hooked the cables up to the battery so I thought that may have indicated it had still had a charge (just a newbie hunch) but since I really don't know much I kept it on there.

This guys post kind of sounds ALOT like mine. The cell phone charger light on the dash is lit up and I don't have anything plugged into it! But I know my car does funny things when the battery is really low, so maybe that's causing the cell phone light to be illuminated??? IDK   It did rain last night like the guy in the post, but the scoot was in the garage.

It's easy to accidentally kill the battery by not completely closing the seat.  I leaves the underseat light on (and an indicator on the dash).  A low battery will will make the starter do that.

Put on trickle charger.  No start. New battery. I bought one on Amazon 45.00 dollars. It took 5 minutes to install.
I wish I could ride more and drive less!

The fact that the needle jumped really high when you first connected the charger means the battery was really low.  It was taking a lot of amperage at first.  The needle will go lower as the battery gets more charge in it.

So what did the problem end up being DaBears. Was it the battery?

I disconnected my under seat light because of killing a battery.

If your cell phone plug light stays on, this may mean it is shorted out or touching something metal and is killing the battery. Correct this or it will kill a new battery also. :-*
