temperature gauage issues...

Thanks to all for the good advice on the shutter issue.  Rode a fair amount the past few days and that shutter I
was getting was minimal.  I did get the "trumpet" sound a good bit, especially first 15 mins of riding.
Next issue:  In the middle of my ride (30 minutes into it) I noticed temp gauge reading "cold".  Stopped for 5 minutes, turning bike
off.  On restart gauge was read normal.  Then, in a few minutes dropped back to "cold" mid ride.  A couple of times it would change mid-ride from
reading "cold" to reading "normal" without doing anything.
Any ideas?  Thanks.

It's the sensor or the gauge. Or bad connection/wire.

Sometimes belt slippage can cause a shudder, or the clutch pads may be too smooth from not snapping the throttle on takeoff, allowing the pads to slip and glaze against the clutch bell, as you slowly mosey into motion.

To cure it, you may have to open up the CVT, but first try not driving like a douche. Never drive like a douche.

Get your motor running. Head out on the highway, looking for adventure, and whatever comes your way.

Also, there's a couple of sensors, one on the engine block and one on the underside of the carb, so take out the seat bucket and make sure they haven't vibrated loose.

Probably a loose wire between the sensor and the gauge.  I could also be a damaged/pinched wire.

thanks guys....at present I don't have an X500 service manual.  Is this wire/sensor issue something
easy to get to...that I can check out myself or is it best left to a tech who knows the Kymco?

By the way...I have begun to be less of a douche on throttle up -- and at least I'm not hearing
as many giggles and belly laughs from all those drivers around me

BTW...ce....love the reference to Steppenwolf -- who I saw at Clemson University as a junior in high school.  A fond
memory of that double date with my senior girlfriend, Brenda.  Thanks for the jolt.

Right on, dude, the easy check is to remove the seat bucket, 5 acorn nuts and 4 allen heads, watch out for the light and charger connectors, just unplug them and tie the seat to the handlebars with a bungi cord.

It's good to get familiar with the engine compartment, so just make sure all wires and vac hoses are secure, follow the wires where you can and examine connectors.

The hard part would be up front under the cowling, but I'd wait for a real reason to take all that apart, like light or radiator service, unless you're just curious, or can't find anything amiss down below.

Alrighty ce....thanks a lot for the seat bucket tutorial.  Looked at it and thought I'd ask you boys before diving into it.
This is a perplexing issue.  Rode some yesterday....temp gauge reads COLD.  I take a twilight ride tonight...COLD for about
15 minutes...then reads NORMAL the rest of the time.
I'll give it a look now that you've eased my mind about getting in over my sore head.
