Which Givi Mounting Kit to Use?
« on: August 14, 2012, 03:10:42 PM »
I just bought a 2012 older style Kymco 500Ri ABS because I prefer the older styling to newer model. According to my dealer there was only one 500 ABS left in the warehouse.  Has anyone installed a Givi Monokey top box on their 2010 or 2011 bike? What brackets did you use? The SR 89 or Sr 91? Givi and it website are useless because of the offering of two different styles of 500 Ri ABS offered overseas and now here.

I have a 2012 xciting 500Ri and ordered the SR91, On the paper diagrams it shows "Kymco Xciting R 2009 300i-500i". I also had the SR92 sent to me when I ordered for the 300 i had and it listed on the diagrams "2009 125-300 cc". I found that the (2) spacers included in the SR91 were too long for the mounting to my 500. So, fortunately, I still had all the hardware from the 300 (SR92 kit) and the shorter spacers were just right for the mounting. The spacers for the (SR91 kit) shown on the diagram are "016x50mm--Foro 08,5mm, V502. The spacers in the (SR92 kit) list 020x35mm, V250. These figures are taken right from the diagrams from both mounts. If I may add a WORD OF CAUTION. When you are taking out the long mounting bolts to replace them with the kit bolts, loosen both but only take one at a time out, being you will get a shift of the holes if you take both out at once and will have a problem lining up for the new bolts to secure with. I did everything with mine other than connecting the holding brackets to the upper shock mounts being I didn't have the correct tools or the know how to do that. If the new spacers are too lond as were for me and you can't get 2 spacers as I had from another kit, you may have to cut them down to fit. FURTHER: if you can order the (2) spacers from the (SR92 kit), they are listed as part #7, Q.TYn.2).

Syl - which 500Ri do you have - the single headlight or the separated slanted headlights?  I've got the old style. I sent photos of the rear assembly to a very sharp fellow named Trevor at GW Cycle World in Calgary, Canada.  He said I definitely needed the SR 89.

That probably accounts for the difference in spacer sizing.  I also found out that we need to order windshields that fit the '06 bike.
Curiouser and curiouser.

Big Orange:  I believe you can.  You'll have to order it seperate as it doesn't come with each case like the monolocks do.  Here's what I will order to use on my topcase bracket.

Check out shad luggage also. Much cheaper, about same quality. You can get it from Kymco dealer. :-*

Datapoint - I ended up getting a screaming deal on an SR89 kit from ebay. It fit my 2009 just fine. Givi and the Kymco forum were both not so helpful when queried about this fitment issue. Hopefully there's enough data here now to make a decision.

Thanks Neil that was really helpful ???

Anyway - I found out from a shop in Alberta, Canada that the the SR-89 is the proper mount for the old style single light 500.
