Boo: Please help me out here. I don't understand "inline fuse to the hot wire" I mean....I have installed a decent amount of Deltran Battery Tenders in my day & it's pretty simply. Black=Negative, Red=Positive! Insight?
MassScoot, if you have a fuse in the HOT line, whether it be on the Beltran Tender wires or an installed inline fuse, you are good to go.
If your tender does not come with an inline fuse, be sure to add one.
I like to put the fuse close to the battery connection.
I had pig tails running from my battery on a motorcycle that I used to hook to a tender. (no fuse). The hot wire accidently touched my exhaust while I was riding. Smoke boiled from my bike. It melted a section of my hot wire and welded it to my exhaust pipe.
Thank goodness it did not hurt anything. At the time of the incident, I was worried that the short might have done damage to the electronics on my bike. No damage. Guess I dodged a bullet that time.
Wires can move out of position, touch the exhaust or get pinched.
I`m making sure that never happens to me again.
Now, I secure all wires properly with ti loks and use an inline fuse.
Some cheap tenders work just fine but do not come with an inline fuse.
ps: Pretty sure i`m using 15 amp fuses on all our Tender connections. If something shorts, I want that connection broken fast before any damage is done.
