A Couple of Quick Questions on a the GT300i
« on: August 18, 2012, 06:42:06 PM »
Ok...I've been posting a little much the past two days. I have a couple of quick questions.....

1st: Is anyone using a Deltran Battery Tender? If so, where do you snake the pigtail thru? I assume the battery is in the floorboards...Correct?

2nd: What is the quality of the supplied Kymco rack case? Is it junk? Or should I just get a Shad or Givi case? Does anyone know the quart size of the Kymco case? I always liked the black wired/metal open basket-type. I could always throw a 18 pack of beer in there without an issue.

Any insight?

I have the pigtail come out by where you check the coolant level. When I am not using it I just stick the end in so there is just a small loop of wire sticking out.

Wiz: Very cool of you to shoot a pic as well! Looks like an easy "snake-thru" procedure. I always use a little Die-Electric Grease on the end of the pigtail (that meets the battery)

Thanks again for the heads-up! I appreciate it!

Pardon my interruption but, try to remember to put an inline fuse on the hot wire. It could save you some trouble.
Ax me how I know.

Boo: Please help me out here. I don't understand "inline fuse to the hot wire" I mean....I have installed a decent amount of Deltran Battery Tenders in my day & it's pretty simply. Black=Negative, Red=Positive! Insight?

There is a 30 amp fuse built in to the pigtail on mine.

Quick question for you GT300i owners out there. As I'm fast approaching the 400 mile mark, I wanted to ask what you guys think of stock Maxxis tires. Too be honest, I rather like them. They grip the road well & feel really soild. Are Maxxis considered an "economy" tire?

UPDATE: I got a few responses from some other forums & it seems like Maxxis is average tire. It will be a while until I need to change them out (hopefully) I'm @ 412 miles as of today. Looks like I'll be going in for my 1st service with my local Kymco dealer very soon. I'll stay with dinosaur oils (engine & crank) for now, then move over to synthetic after that.

MassScoot, if you have a fuse in the HOT line, whether it be on the Beltran Tender wires or an installed inline fuse, you are good to go.
If your tender does not come with an inline fuse, be sure to add one.

I like to put the fuse close to the battery connection.
I had pig tails running from my battery on a motorcycle that I used to hook to a tender. (no fuse). The hot wire accidently touched my exhaust while I was riding. Smoke boiled from my bike. It melted a section of my hot wire and welded it to my exhaust pipe.

Thank goodness it did not hurt anything.  At the time of the incident, I was worried that the short might have done damage to the electronics on my bike. No damage. Guess I dodged a bullet that time.

Wires can move out of position, touch the exhaust or get pinched.
I`m making sure that never happens to me again.
Now, I secure all wires properly with ti loks and use an inline fuse.
Some cheap tenders work just fine but do not come with an inline fuse.
ps: Pretty sure i`m using 15 amp fuses on all our Tender connections. If something shorts, I want that connection broken fast before any damage is done.

Boo: Yes...The Deltran Battery Tender Jr. has a inline-fuse that I have connected to the positive terminal. It was a pretty easy install for the most part. The battery compartment is a tad tight under the floorboard. Had just enough room to push the fuse behind the battery & snake the pigtail outside. I didn't even need a twist-tie to hold it down. It also away from my exhaust.

Thanks so much for the "heads-up"

Deltran also makes a adaptor that will plug into a 12 volt accessory plug. That would be the easiest way to go.
