One week old Agility 125 -- trouble starting??
« on: August 27, 2012, 04:24:46 AM »
I just bought a 2012 Kymco Agility 125 a week ago
I have put 175 KM (108 Miles) on the bike

Now, when I try to start to bike, it occasionally has trouble starting.
(10-15 tries before it starts)

Anyone have a similar issue?
Do Kymco's normally do this?

I bought an Agility RS 125 (Australian model) 2 weeks ago.
I noticed that it has a bit of trouble starting.

When it is cold and hasnt been started in a few days, it can take me a good 5-15 attempts to start it. However I considered this to be normal for a carberuetted bike. What suprises me though, is that I can ride the bike around for an hour, stop it, then attempt to start it again a few a few minutes, only to have 5-10 attempts before starting up again. On some occasions it starts first go perfectly, cold or not.

It's quite inconsistent which leads me to believe that it is poor auto-choking, or something along those lines.

Would twisting the throttle help at all?
And as the OP asked, do other owners have this same issue?

An iridium plug might help . Good luck .

I have two Agility 125's and they are both a pain to start if they sit untouched for about a week.  Sometimes it takes me 20 minutes or more to get them to start after sitting for more than a week.  Often the battery runs out and then I have to Kick Start.   Seems like a wide open throttle during the starting process will help it catch and then it will idle for a few seconds before dying and then I restart and repeat the process until they run continous.  I don't know for sure, but my guess is the fuel lines get air in them causing a fuel starvation issue?  I hope somebody has a fix - my solution is to remember to start the bikes every few days to prevent the problem from recurring.

figured out a solution:
Take the gas cap off and then start the scooter.

It's also best to fill the tank about 7/8 full and not put any more fuel than that.

My 2009 owned for year and a half has not given any problems starting even in 45-50 degree chilly mornings outside. Usually starts with one push of button, or on rare occasions a second quick stab.

If removing the gas cap works, then drill a tiny hole in the center of it.

If the gas cap trick works look to see if the vent line from the tank is
routed wrong. It could be the valves too. After your first service it
might run better if they adjust the valves for you. It's probably jetted
lean to make emissions so tweaking the carb might help too.

Randy,

I drilled my gas cap years ago to solve a problem that sounds like the one described here.

What I'm wondering is . . .  what if the problem was actually one of the things you mentioned.
I've never checked that stuff on my People 150.  I should check it and if adjustments are made then try plugging the hole in my gas cap.

Kevin

PS:> It's been a while but my old symptoms were something like:  Starts fine dies after 5 or 10 miles - then won't start until the gas cap is removed.
When removing gas cap a faint sucking sound is heard.  Hmm . . . a vacuum - so I drilled the cap.

Well my car runs fine but sucks air in when you open the gas cap.
It's a no no to vent fumes to the atmosphere these days. But if it
fixed the problem it must stop the fuel flow somehow. There is a
carbon canister on the Yager, it's hidden way back in the tail.
These can get filled with liquid gas and make the bike hard to
start as it's too rich. They work by storing fumes then dumping
them into the intake upon restart. If you found where it goes
back into the intake and took that hose off and cap the nipple
that would tell you if it is the problem.

I'd try to start a few times (unsucessfully) and pull the plug to
see if it is wet or dry and also have the valves adjusted. They
generally close up so don't allow enough flow through the engine.

I don't have the exact year model(2012) but definitely a Agility 125. I had the same problem during winter (Australia) when the bike was very cold and unable to start. So, what I did was kick start the bike and got it going. Not sure if that works for every Kymco scoot but yea it worked for me. It only happened this year. I've had the bike for 3yrs and it never did this to me on my first 2yrs during winter???

Best of luck!
