NOW RUNNING! $75 2004 now needs tires/speedo parts...
« on: August 30, 2012, 10:50:37 PM »
Hello -
Couldn't resist a $75 People 50.... thought stories of folks finding them were like spotting a unicorn...

She's not the prettiest, but pretty damn complete...

Picked up a new battery today (trickling as I type) and a new end for one of the battery cables...

Still would like to find some used parts and have called locally with no luck...any ideas or sources would be appreciated!
(I have called stadium and they are researching costs but admitted at least 2 1/2 weeks at best...)

Need both the left and right brake levers (both are bent, one crazily so...) according to the scoot shop, these will snap if I try to straighten... anyone have a method that will avoid a snap?

Speedo lens cover (last owner smashed this during transport somehow)
Right mirror

and less importantly  -

muffler heat shield
vin cover
seats (main and buddy ... or just main) these are not only ripped but have chunks out...

anyone parting one out or have any leads on where to call?
scooter season is short in the rockies, so I'm trying to act fast...

and is there a link to a the People 50 2T service manual?

thank you  thank you thank you

pics to come...

Dam nice find!!!!!!!!

I'm not....Lmao...
I have used a local(ish) dealer here and always gotten my orders in a few days. It is a dealership though, Stadium Yamaha usually has the better prices. Shipping is always a pain regardless.  ::)

Would be nice if you could buy parts at the Kymco base in Spartanburg. You would be just over an hour drive away in Asheville.

It says "Welcome to Kymco Base USA" over the door. Rode by there just to take a look one time. Not at nice as I'd hoped.

Crazy how long it takes to receive Kymco parts from a dealer in the US.
Every dealer around the country I spoke to (5) only stocks the basics and then must place an order through Kymco in SC.
SC national warehouse usually only has one of ten items the dealer needs and the other 90% has to be imported.
The imported part ships to SC and then to the dealer and of course finally to the consumer...

and although I only priced a few items via ebay.uk, items such as brake handles (JUST the handle are $21-$23 each! (and yes left/right are $2 different in price... while uk consumers can buy a set for about $18 US TTL!

IF Kymco is as big as it appears in the US, the US warehouse is missing out an alot of sales! Not to mention the ill will and lousy customer service...

wish I could find a good dealer in Canada to order from, or the UK (I tried contacting the UK Ebay sellers about shipping to the US, but alas no response...)

Scoot is running now and I found used - vin cover, speedo cover, mirror, muffler guard and (drum roll please) a seat!
Seat is black but almost perfect... so removing the buddy seat and moving the rack...

Now more bad news, need a set of tires and two speedo parts (cable assembly and gear hub assembly...)
crap, crap, crap ... lol

and finding an somewhat inexpensive 80/80/100 tubeless is rough, alas the rear is not an issue...

pics to come
