Like 200 drive belt specs
« on: September 04, 2012, 11:52:53 PM »
Hi guys!

Lurker finally posting.

I bought my daughter a 2011 Like 200 last July. She just turned 12,000 miles (no lie). Today the drive belt disintegrated on her way home from school. She needs this thing for college and work so I'm wondering if anyone can supply specs on the belt or give me a source. Neither dealer near me stocks the OEM so I'm looking for a quick fix, possibly from a local Motorcycle or scooter shop until the OEM gets shipped. Length, width, etc. is what I need for a temporary replacement. I've had no luck Googling it. I don't know if belts are interchangeable but i need a way to get her scoot roadworthy fast. Thanks for any help. This forum has been an invaluable resource for us so far...even though I still haven't found a shop manual lol.

12k miles? Did you get it used or does your daughter not sleep??? Looked around too, didn't see any specs. Is the destroyed one not able to be measured? I'm afraid you'll have to just wait for the new one to ship to you. Overnight it if you can.

I believe this one will fit.  You may be able to at least find something based on this item's specs etc.  Scooterworks is great to buy from and perhaps they can assist.

Sorry to hear about your situation.  From what I saw in my trans cover, I am surprised the belt lasted that long for the miles she put so fast.  Good luck.

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner but thanks for the replies. I did wind up waiting for an OEM replacement (from an online parts place I will never order from again!). I'm not much of a mechanic, especially when it comes to scooters but the swap went fairly well and it seems to be running fine. The rollers were pretty beat so I've ordered a new set of those. Brakes are next on my list if I can find some instructions. The only good dealer/shop near me is 80 miles away and their turn around time is slow so I'd like to do as much service as possible myself. Unfortunately I can't find a shop manual anywhere and the owner's manual isn't much help. Even if I could find a list of what to check or replace and when that would be helpful. Sparks plug, oil, gear oil, valve clearance, etc. are no problem but I'm sure there are things that need attention that I'm overlooking. The front fork is starting to squeak a little?

I bought it new for her. She rides about 50 miles round trip to college every day and to her part time job evenings and weekends, in addition to whatever else running around she does. Nineteen year olds don't sleep much :). If we can get another relatively hassle free year out of it, I figure I got my money's worth.

Thanks for the help guys, I do appreciate it.

I did find some good tutorials on youtube about changing the engine and gear oil. There might be some stuff about doing brakes. Maybe it won't be the exact model (the videos I watched were for the Agility I believe) but there should be enough of a similarity to get you going. Also, there are a couple of companies that publish extensive handbooks on a range of models and the Like 200i is sure to be in there. I believe this one covers the late model Likes http://www.amazon.com/Twist-Haynes-Service-Repair-Manuals/dp/1844250822/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347422893&sr=8-1&keywords=Hanes+scooter+manual

Good luck. I applaud your diy spirit!
