New Agility 50
« on: September 05, 2012, 12:09:50 AM »
I just bought a new agility 50 at a dealership and i was told that i should wait till 500 km on the odometer to derestrict it. does this make any difference to the engine's life span? and what is the most cost effective way to get more top end speed and better acceleration?

Yes its best to wait the 500km for the brake in time.then just do the jet cdi and drive boss.
you can serch all this on the fourm under the serch tap.

Ebay, kymco dealers, most online scooter shops, or just take the restricted boss to a lathe and do it your self or have a machine shop mill it down, takes 5mins tops.

you should be able to do it. just make sure its in tight but dont over tight.
befor you do the cdi make sure you have the one that needs cut you may not have to.
what year is your scoot.I beleave after 2010 you dont have to cut the cdi.

All A50 Kymco cdi's are rev limited.

Do i think you can do the jet? Well that depends how used you are to working on engine/cars/scoots & things or how confident you feel, i was nervous doinv my 1st one but its really pretty simple once you did it a few times. Up to you. You could have a look at it then decide but once your in there then you may as well just do it  :)

I do almost all my own work now cos i hate getting ripped off by dealers and their prices.

I asked the dealer how much it would be for parts an labor theyre response was with the at tune up at 500km it would be $150 + $150 for the tune up. i get the feeling thats quite a rip off considering that the parts are under $40 with shipping. however if i do end up derestricting myself this voids warranty. worth it yes or no? have you ever had major problems after derestricting?

Just keep the bits and refit if you want to make a warranty claim!

You could fit the smooth boss now as it doesn't increase engine RPM, derestrict the CDi once it's run in.

$100 labour for an hour and a halfs work at a main stealer isn't a rip off in the grand scheme of things.

Like rookie said, keep the original boss and if you have any warranty issues just swap the stock one back in before you go to the dealers. Only thing he may wonder is why the variator is worn to the outer edge when a restricted variator boss wont allow this, so it may be worth buying a race variator too and swapping that to be extra safe? Or buy a Malossi Multivar which comes with the smooth boss and race variator as a kit?

Ive had no issues since derestricting, just usual wear and tear on cvt components that i would have whether i derestricted or not.

Oh, and no way would i pay $300 for a tune up and derestrict. Tune up/service parts cost a max of £50-£60 here, derestrict parts cost £15 max.
