Kymco Agility 125: Right Purchase for my Scenario?
« on: September 13, 2012, 08:18:09 PM »
Hi All: I just purchased a GT300i for myself where I live in MA. My parents are getting older & I want to visit them more often (3-4 times a year/1-week @ a time) in Florida.

I want to score an inexpensive scooter. I thought of the Agility 125 from the get-go. I can get an Agility 125 for $1795.00, $195.00 freight/set-up fee, plus 6% FL. Tax & free delivery to my parents home 30 miles away. I'm looking to cruise max @ around 45MPH, maybe 50MPH. I'm 6'0-5'11" @ 225 lbs.

I considered the Honda PCX150 (the dealer is 7 miles away from my parents house) but after thier INSANE fees ($245.00 Freight, $210.00 Dealer Prep, $199.00 Documentation Fee & $185.00 FL. Plate Fee) it would come to $4500.00+

Here's what I will get for the Agility 125.

$1795.00 (Agility 125)
$195.00 (Freight & Dealer Prep)
$130.14 (Tax)
$89.00 (Shad 33 Liter Case installed)
$40.00 Deltran Battery Tender Jr. (installed)

I'm going to write the dealer a check & mail it on Saturday. If you were me....Don't you think the Agility 125 would do the trick? I might put on maybe 500 miles a year on her.

Any insight?

Thanks All!

All i know is i have a 2008 Agility 50cc, derestricted it does 42-45mph on flat ground tho loses speed on the hills. I put 100miles per week on it almost 52 wks of the year. Now has 23,500km's on it and still seems to be running great. My gemeral cruising speed is around 40mph to work each day so i would imagine cruising at 50-60mph on a 125cc Agility would be very realistic, and 500mikes per year would be light use for it. Wouldnt imagine you would have any problems, should suit fine.  :)

Thanks all for the reassurance. I'll write them a check today. My wife doesn't know about it & she won't like it when we're down in Florida & sees the scoot in my parents garage. Oh well....She'll get over it.

500miles per month would be perfect, but per year isn't much.

Yeah...It isn't. I'll use Stabil & StarTron ethanol fuel treatment, also will keep the battery on a float charge via a Battery tender. I'll have my father start the Agility every two weeks & run it for 15 minutes or so. I just want it to start when I come down every 3 months or so. I'll put maybe 150-200 miles each time I come down (if that) My mom & dad are in their mid-70's now & I really need to spend more time with them.

I think it's a great idea. No need to rent a car when visiting your parents and you don't have to worry about taking up room in their garage.

Nice to blow out & go to town & score some dinner in downtown Stuart, FL. Also....My father driving skills aren't really there anymore, so they sold their second card & my mother does 95% of the driving now. So...That leaves plenty of room in their garage to store the Agility 125. Wrote "Scooters of Vero" a check for half the scoot & I'll pay these rest once I get down in October.

Guys...I went to my local dealer that I purchased a GT300i from. I asked them if I could take the Agility 125 out for a quick test spin. They said yes...but no more then 5 miles. I was honest & told them I'm buying it from a Florida dealer & they had no issues with that, considering I have given them all my business for the past 15 years. I have to admit, I felt a little disappointed. Those tires suck asss (CST) & the ride was rough IMHO. The engine was fairly "peppy" even though it's not broken in yet. I'm considering a Super 8 150cc instead. Yes...It's $600.00 more, but sitting on one feels better. Plus the fit & finish looks a little nicer too me. I'm sure the extra 25cc won't matter much, but I like the larger 14" tires. Still on the ropes.

My thoughts are "if" I change out the tires to something better, then I'm in for another $200.00+

For my 2 cents worth i have to say i would be wanting the scoot as is and ready to ride from day 1. I qouldnt be happy spending the cash for a brand new scoot then having to trash the brand new tyres and fit new ones. If the Agility didmt feel right then i would avoid it cos youre only going to end up not enjoying using it and wishing you had chosen another model instead.

I would try a few different models in that price range and find one you like 100%. What about a People?

The "People" series is gone from the US @ least brand new (which is what I want) I would like the 2-year warranty. The Super 8 has a little too many graphics for me (that can be taken care of) I don't know if I'm "jumping-the-gun" a littile so to speak. But....I like the way the Super 8 fits me & I really like the taller tires. I have always had 16" tires on my scoots (People S200 & now the GT300i) I hesitate to purchased new tires for the Agility 125, that will bring the price up another $200.00+

On the plus side you can sell the ones you take off and put on much better quality tyres of your choice. If you get $40-$50 per tyre back on the ones you sell then thats half the cost of the new upgraded ones. I prefer fitting quality tyres on my scoots, some stock tyres are bad in the wet, not that that will really affect you.

Just...An FYI. I decided to go with the Super 8. She has a Red/White (2012) one in stock & gave it to me for $2295.00. Plus will give me the rack extension for free.

Only charges $195.00 for set-up & delivery! BTW...Heidi from Tropical Scooters of Vero (Vero Beach, FL.) is a great dealer!

I think I'll be happy in the end! The Agility 125 is a good economy scooter, but I wanted a little more & I think the Super 8 will provide that.

MassScoot,
Streido offers some excellent advice in taking the scooter "as is". The old saying, "you can't improve on perfection" could almost apply to this bike. Kymco products in my opinion are bullet proof. It sounds like you are trying to sell yourself and asking us to help sell you on the Agility. You have already made the decision to buy it. Ride it like you stole it and enjoy the hell out of it and don't worry about it.
Happy safe scooting, (watch for deer, they hurt).
Mike
