New 2013 Like 50 owner
« on: September 24, 2012, 03:36:19 PM »
I'm a new owner with 13 miles on her. I am trying to abide by the 20mph max for the first 200miles rule of thumb for break in. I have not tried to max it out yet but any idea on how fast i will be able to get up to. Is it governed at all as far as speed goes? This was a gift from my wife. I would have preferred something a little bigger cc wise. Appreciate the advise and input!

Welcome to the forum!
It is very difficult to abide to the manual's recommended speed for the break-in period. What my dealer/mechanic told me was that it was okay to vary the throttle during riding and wot was okay on occasion, though cautioned me against staying at wot for extended lengths of time. You will find varying opinions on proper break-in, ranging from those whom choose to only do what the manual says to "ride it like you stole it". I went with what my dealer said as at the time, I wanted to stay within his perameters to keep the scoot in warranty.
The breakin period will typically last for about the first 750 - 1000km. Within this period, my top speed was about 35mph. After break-in, my max was about 38mph. These measurements were in "perfect conditions", i.e. no wind on a flat surface. Hills would drop me to 25-30mph and a stiff wind (10-20mph) would have a similar effect.
It's a great-looking scoot you have!
Definitely stay with a 2 stroke mineral oil for the break-in period, though make sure it is of a decent quality. I used Bel Ray 2t mineral oil.
sans scooter, rien

the like used to be restricted by the muffler and the CVT,
but now I think it has a modded computer also.

Wait a minute they have a Like 50 2T? When did that happen?

Breakin is a suggestion like the speed limit. The idea is parts are machining
themselves by rubbing and you don't want overheating and glazing of the cylinder.
It's important to accelerate then decelerate a lot during the first 100 miles or so.
This scrapes both sides of the cylinder to seat the rings. Each ride you can go slightly
faster and hold higher RPM's longer. If it feels tight back off a little.

Stock it might go 35 MPH and derestricted you might see 50 MPH of course you can
port it a bit and go real fast but it might need rebuilding more often!

yep, I am looking at it at vegas motor sports here.
they showed me the oil tank and said after the break in to switch to all synthetic oils for it.
nice scooter, about twice the size of the mio.
