New Kymco owner Like 50 2013
« on: September 24, 2012, 07:43:43 PM »
Hello,

i look forward to everyone advise and knowledge going forward. i have 13 miles and am breaking it in going 20mph for first 200 miles. i am fairly mechanically inclined. I was curios how fast these will go stock? is there any way to up the top speed by removing any governors, etc? any other break in tips? thanks!

Marty: 1st...Welcome to the Kymco forum. There are a lot of decent people in here willing to help you out with most of your questions. BTW... like the "Like200i" for the money. No reason for mods on this scoot. It's FI & basically has the same engine as the older Kymco People S200 here:

http://www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/peopleS200/index.html

I owned the S200 for almost 4 years & it was damn near bullet-proof (never should have sold it) You should really push that scoot beyond 20mph for it's break-in service. You should push it @ WOT a few times for like 30 seconds @ a time. Just don't keep it @ one speed for too long. You want that piston moving up & down that cylinder wall. You won't do the scoot any favors @ 20mph & under within the 1st 200 miles, trust me.

PS: I'm sorry! I just notice you have the 50cc version. Same applies!

Get the scoot derestricted 1st, the dealer will do it for you. Then if you need more, checkout the 50cc forums on these boards. Good Luck!

Welcome. I don't know anything about break in on your size motor but Masscoot is right on with the bigger ones. You've got to do a little searing at short WOT applications. But this is the place for the scooter nerds who can answer all your questions and they are usually right. ATGATT saved my life 2 weeks ago. I'm recovering from some serious injuries due to locked brakes when a deer came out in front of me at night. I would not be here today if i had scrimped on any equipment. So enjoy that scoot and be safe!

So I opened it tonight. Got it up to 32ish. I know it is a 50cc and is limited but is there anything I can do myself to derestrict it and squeeze a few more mph out of it?

Diet...

just kidding... ;D

You can search for some aftermarket air intake filters and exhaust pipes... these bolt-ons may help...

Welcome!
