Powering Out?
« on: September 27, 2012, 01:22:33 PM »
I'll be riding the bike and it acts exactly like a carb is plugging off. It looses power to the point where I have to pull over. If it sits for like ten seconds I can ride it a little further.  Sometimes I can ride it twenty miles with no problems. The front carb plugs off maybe once every other year. I put an inline fuel filter on it and a week later it starts doing this. I changed the filter and it's still doing it. It acts exactly like the carb is plugging off, except when the carb plugs off it NEVER would pull out it until I'd pull it apart and clean the carbs. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

It's a shame no one got back to you earlier, the North hemisphere is off season so I guess no one will get back to you in a while.
What you have my friend is a classic case of gas tank vacuume lock. Some models had the gas tank vent and overflow built into the cap or somewhere in the tank.
To diagnose this; when you loose power and pull onto the side, don't wait for a few min, open the gas tank cap right away and you will hear a air rushing sound into your gas tank, straight after you should be able to start and later on it will come back again.
If so then you will have to late the air vent and unblock it, either on the gas tank cap or the gas tank. Which depends on your model.

I took it for a test ride and took my spare key and when it started acting up I popped the gas cap off and it didn't change anything. It still acted up. It would act up and pull out of it, then one time it died and I could never get it start back up again. It would turn over and over but wouldn't fire. Full tank of gas, and I put half a can of GB44K in it. It turned over till the battery was dead. Had to have my wife tow me home with the jeep and a tow strap. Holy crap that's scary! So I don't know. I seriously rebuilt the carbs 3 months before it started acting up this last time. But now that riding season is over maybe I'll just sell it. I probably should pull the crabs before I try and sell it though. I don't know. Just so fed up with the bike. But thank you so much max for responding. Still if you or anyone else have suggestions I still need to fix it. Thanks

Well now that its home you can pull the spark plug and have a look at it to see if you get gas. If it is wet then you don't have a fuel problem and its not you're carb that is acting up.
So check them and at the same time charge your battery.
Then we look for other problems.

I think you need a complete service of your bike. Maybe, I feel that problem is with your bike's corroborator powering off. You need to replace it with absolutely new corroborator.  This idea will help you to run your bike amazingly.

I figured out the problem! So when I put the inline fuel filter on it I had to put more fuel hose to connect everything. When the motor would get hot the fuel hose would get softer and pinch off, starving the motor  for gas. Easy fix! Thanks for the help.
