Math Question
An Excavator weighing 8 tons is on top of a flatbed trailer and heading east on Interstate 70 near Hays, Kansas. The extended shovel arm is made of hardened refined steel and the approaching overpass is made of commercial-grade concrete, reinforced with 1 1/2 inch steel rebar spaced at 6 inch intervals in a criss-cross pattern layered at 1 foot vertical spacing.

Solve: When the shovel arm hits the overpass, how fast do you have to be going to slice the bridge in half? (Assume no effect for headwind and no braking by the driver...) Extra Credit: Solve for the time and distance required for the entire rig to come to a complete stop after hitting the overpass at the speed calculated above. Yes, you can neglect friction.

Your link doesn't work dude... Commercial grade concrete??? ??? What's the psi? What's the equipment strapped down with? What angle is the boom at? How thick is the concrete? How old is the concrete? Is there cars on the bridge? How drunk is the driver? I mean how many variables can there be? Stupid question. Fix your link and we might understand.

Nobody will ever get to solve the question because that thing does not weigh 8 tons in the first place.  The Hyundai R210LC-7 weighs more than that... 23 metric tons or 25.5 tons (short US) ... and that's the operational weight... the dry weight would be different....

and Commercial grade concrete? maybe you meant commercial strength concrete??? commercial grade cement??? but that's not how they grade cement...  and I think roads and bridges use refractory grade...


in our country... that same scenario can cut two bridges... think sub-standard materials...  ;D
