SYM Citicom is back in the States!
« on: September 29, 2012, 01:30:06 PM »
Well....I cruised by my SYM dealer (too far away from my house @ 40+ miles) They received their 1st shipment of the Citicom 300i. They had two...One Red & Charcoal/Grey color. Both looked great! They don't have pics yet on the Alliance Powersports website yet, but here are some pics under Lance Powersports on Facebook here:

http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Lance-Powersports/112027905492357?fref=ts

I sat on one & the seat is AWESOME! Blows away my Kymco GT300i seat! I like the looks of the scoot more as well. Plus it comes with a very nice windshield. The downside? Well....It's the same 263cc FI engine @ just 21+ HP. They are selling for $4600.00. I would have really considered this scoot before my GT300i purchase. The problem is it's powerplant. For the money I except more then 21+HP myself. I also really like the dash, again they did a better job then Kymco here. Speed, Tach & Fuel. The layout is perfect!

I think it blows away the GT200i myself for the same money. SYM still needs to get their dealerships back in order after the Carter Brothers fire. Parts aren't as easy as Kymco either. I know we are all "Kymco" people here, but I'm glad SYM (Alliance) decided to bring the Citicom 300i back to the US. SYM makes a damn fine scooter & it's still made in Taiwan.

My S 250 is 20.1 HP. The GT 300i is 29 HP.  I am not impressed by the Citicom's 21 HP. They are heavy @ 406 lbs and not that fast. The Citicom has a seat height of 33.1 inches. Thats really high for a scooter. And according to some test rides the brakes were reported to not be that great. I'll stick with Kymco.

Old Geezer: I completely understand where you're coming from. Remember...The S250 was going for $4,499.00 last year.

Link:

http://www.kymcousa.com/showroom/scooters/peopleS250/index.html

For FI & a little more HP the SYM Citicom doesn't look so bad @ $4600.00. I must admit the seat is the "key" to the Citicom 300i! It is a dream vs. our Kymco's! You know how much I love the "looks" of the People S250! But...I must say, the Citicom looks better too me! It's a damn fine scoot for sure! The seat has this Red sitiching around the trim that looks so cool! My link to Facebook was broken somehow...Do a search on FB for "Lance Powersports" You'll see what I'm talking about! Yes...she is heavy @ 406 lbs.

I paid $3700 a year ago for a new S 250 with no add ons and now they are going as low as $3200. If I was going to get another scooter it would be the Gt 300i Kymco.  I don't believe the Citicom will in any way compare in the performance and handling category with the GT 300i.

Are you calling me a liar???. ::) I could post a picture of my contract but I guess you wouldn't believe that either. I could care less what you believe or not. I'm an old man and have no reason to post false hoods on the Internet. I am way beyond having anything to prove.

And by the way every time I posted a low price I posted the dealer web page with the price listed. And the number for Castle PowerSports was listed. Just call them and ask if it is posible to buy a scooter with no set up and shipping fees.

Teemon just bought a new S250 for $ 3299. I guess he got that wrong as well.

Heres someone selling new 2010 Kymco S 250 for $2999.  :o

Sym do make nice looking scoots but thats all they are. Most the sym scoots I have seen fell apart shortly after doing any mods to theam. Were kymco scoots can hold up longer after all the mods.dont let the looks of a nice scoot fool you..........

Old Scoot: I'm not calling you a liar @ all. Just that I "question" your price quotes. There isn't $800.00 of margin in a People S250! I'm in sales & I understand what things cost. Every dealer pays for shipping & that usually runs about $125.00-175.00 per unit (depending on the company) & where they are located in the US. Most dealers also try to pad their margin buy charging a set-up & freight fee. I guess you're lucky enough not have that issue.

BTW....I called that Cycletrader link you provided. Bert's Mega Mall in CA. sells the 2010 Kymco People S250 for $4,000+, not the $3299.00 on the web. Not your fault @ all. Fees upon fees. There simply isn't alot of margin in Kymco scoots & too see someone buying a S250 for $800.00 off retail is not the "norm" Unless they really want to get rid of a scooter, then maybe. Even then, a good buisiness person will hang-on to that scoot & wait until the right person comes along & falls in love with it. That's what I'm saying!

PS: I wish I could have pleasant rest of my day....but my Delaware Blue Hens lost to the Hew Hampshire Wildcats 34-14! I went to the game up in Durham, NH. this afternoon.

A lot of dealers own little or none of their inventory, though. Instead they use a dealer "floor plan," which in essence is short-term financing of the inventory. If they sell in the first thirty days, all's well -- they make essentially what a cash buyer of the inventory would have made on the sale. After that, there's an interest payment made on each piece still on the floor. So scooter dealers will often run the numbers, and give a cash customer a much better deal on a bike that's been on the floor for six months or more, hoping to pocket a few hundred dollars or at least break even.

After comparing both the Kymco & Sym bikes I find the parts/components used on the Kymco to be more robust than the SYM as well as the fit & finish. JM2C

As far as getting $800 off of msrp it is entirely possible, I just signed a deal for a 2012 650 Executive for $9000.00 (Retail $9899) which also includes the service manual (not throwing in the service manual would have been deal breaker). Hopefully I will get the bike this coming week.

The Sym Citycom 300i was taken off the UK model range a while ago but there are still the odd leftovers for sale circa £2700 which is a lot of scooter for the money.

InfernoST: 1st off....I'm a Kymco fan-boy! SYM's fit & finish is just as good as Kymco, in some cases better! As for the $800.00 off...Yes you're talking about something that retails for almost $10,000! Of course they can discount that for almost 10% because the margin is there! It amazes me how some people simply don't "get-it" Maybe I too old & have been in sales way too long!

Anyway.....Good Luck with your purchase!

Masscoot,
I can empathize with how you feel. Had some time time to kill and went by the Kymco dealer to check on repair progress on my X500 and then across the street to the Honda dealer just to window shop. I was really impressed by the new NC700DCT. With the flip of a switch you can choose either manual or automatic transmission. It is a well designed beautiful bike with ABS. What looks like a fuel tank on the sport bikes is actually a large storeage area. It has 51 horses and a top speed of 117mph. And all of this for $9,000. I'm really considering taking the "like new" Xciting with only 900 miles on it and doing a trade. They had several maxiscoots on the floor and the salesman said they would be glad to take it on a trade in. When I become infatuated like this I have to watch my impulsivity and finances and would only do something like this after I talked it over with my accountant, Mrs. Green. So we're always going to see and admire other products from other manufacturers. We at times are going to buy other products other than Kymco and that's ok. As long as there is quality and dollar value...and aesthetics.

Mike, that Honda looks awesome, but I think your accountant will not approve of that because as I see it, that Honda spells speeed with a girl on pillion... ;D ;D ;D

Not so sure Vivo,
I've never had a pillion rider before. So not a chance...yet. And with my accountant it's all bottom line. If the money is available it is okay. And I don't like for us to go into debt by buying "toys". So a general concensus and hopefully good judgement would put me in the saddle. We'll see what I'm offered on my Kymco and then go from there.
