My 1st Motorcycle: 1984 Honda CT110
« on: October 10, 2012, 10:09:06 PM »
I was thinking about my 1st motorcycle today because I noticed an old (outstanding condition) Honda CT110. My parents bought this for me in 1984 for my 1st year in college (University of Delaware) to get around on. I sold it in 1991 for $375.00. When I look @ it now, it's kind of ugly! But @ the time & was totally in love with it. I had a huge black wire basket attached in the rear. Every now & again I would burn my right leg on that damn exhaust pipe cover! Ahh...memories!

Here are a couple of links of the Honda CT110. I also have some pics of mine from the 80's. I should find them & post them here @ some point.

Masscoot,
Thanks so much for sharing those memories. Sometimes we need to remember the special times
and then it is something as insignificant as a Honda moped that made them unique. When I was a
senior in high school my dad bought me a Fiat 500. The taxi cab of Europe. Now this was during the
muscle car era and I had friends with Mustangs and GTO's and there I was in my little 4 door white
compact with a 4 speed on the column. I would wash and polish that thing so that you could see
your reflection in the hood. It got me to class everyday and dates on weekends and when I went off to college he traded it in on a new red VW beetle for me. Almost talked him into a Karmen Gia but no go. Point is I would love to have either one of those now just for the hell of it. Please follow through with those pictures. I always enjoy your posts. Thanks for jogging my memories.

Mike: Sounds like you & I are around the same age. I do remember Fiat's in the late 70's early 80's before they left the USA shores. Geez...Now they are doing pretty well with the new Fiat 500. I see a ton of them up here in New England. I miss my college days Mike. It's like you're still a kid & a semi-adult. Parties galore, tons of women & some excellent friends just having a blast! At least you had 4 wheels vs. my 2! Kind of hard to makeout on a CT110. BTW...Did you notice the external gas take on the left-hand side? Too funny. That bike was bullet-proof just the same.

Vivo...I remember that Honda 70cc bike! My uncle (on my wife's side) still owns one (green color scheme of sorts) He keeps it in his shed. It's in mint, mint shape as well. I begged him to sell it to me, but he will not budge. Plus...He doesn't even use it! He has a Suzuki Burgman & he crusies on all of the time. It's like that Honda 70cc was kind of like the 1st Yamaha Zuma. I know Yamaha did make a "knock-off: that Honda 70 you had. Good stuff!

Hi MassScoot, Here is my first motorbike. It was a 1959 Allstate Moped which wasa rebadged Puch product sold in Sears stores. 49cc of roaring power which I bought second hand for $60. It could do about 35mph flat out but got 100mpg's. Great cheap wheels fo a 15 year old high school kid!

Yup MassScoot, the Dax 70cc was the first Zuma. Actually, it more of a trail bike rather than a commuter bike, same with the Honda Mini-Trail 50cc 4t.  These were great bikes for underage moto-crossers during our 70's days, although the Dax 70cc was bigger..

old geezer,
Those two firsts of yours are out standing. Can you imagine what a collector would pay for that Allstate scooter? The Harley Hydraglide also, but that scooter is so rare if you still had it and wanted to sell it would certainly enrich your portfolio. My first bike is my 09 Xciting 500Ri. I bought
it this year at the ripe old age of 64. I own and have ridden horses all my life but two back surgeries and the desire not to have anymore ended that diversion. I had never ridden any type of motorized
two wheel vehical in my life. How hard could it be right. Now I'm sitting around nursing broken ribs
and a broken foot. Can't wait to ride again! Thanks for sharing these exquisite motorbikes.

Love the Vespa OldGeez, bet you wish you had that now, youd be the coolest geez in town  8)

My 1st scoot, given it for free,even had it delivered for free by the owners bro just to get it out her garden where it had sat for 5yrs.  :D Didnt work when i got it, rewired it, repainted it, fixed it up in 3-4 wks and had it on the road, never looked back since  ;

Sold it to a neighbour a few months later for £300, he still has it now, runs great and hes never spent a dime on it. Kinda wish i'd kept it now  :P

Peugeot Speedfight 100cc Mk2......1999.

From this...

To this........

And then he was gone, ran off with the neighbour the bitch, im sure he just keeps on running perfectly to fcuk me off  ;D

Anyway, theres more pics of the little bastard here if anyone's interested........

That's another high dollar collector's item in today's market. Do you still have it?

I put a 110 cc chinese engine in a 1982 Honda Passport last year. This one has a dual clutch and shifted really smooth. I restored it frame up as well.
