Fuel Gauge.. always full?

Put about 50 miles on the 125 I just purchased, and the needle didn't seem to budge at all. I've done some searching and saw that people have had issues with the gauge being inaccurate, but in this case I'm guessing there might be an issue with the sending unit (if it works the same as a car).

I know these things get sick MPG, but this isn't right is it?

Hi Matsui.  Congrats on your purchase...
For some reason, this is how the fuel gauge seems to work on these and other scooters...
The gauge reads full, but then drops quickly to empty as soon as it does move...
I don't worry about it.  Once it starts moving, I know I will need a fill up in the next day or so...

Most work like that.

You'll get full indicated until the fuel drops to about half the tank, and then it'll start
falling down rapidly. That's why a lot of motorcycles don't even have a gauge, just
a warning light.

My People 250 stays full until it gets to about 1/16th of a tank then the needle drops.  I might as well just have a low fuel light. It works just the same.

Thanks for the heads up guys, just needed confirmation that I'm not crazy. I'll keep a mental note "if needle moves, go get fuel" on top of marking down mileage upon fill up.

About halfway through a tank with some seafoam in it, already can tell she's running a little smoother.
