Many people buy scoots for there practicality, I'm thinking a small motorcycle would be better on fuel then a scoot being you have gears to help out the eng.

So why not a small motorcycle?

Personally, I use my scoot for commuting to work and getting around downtown (with fun trips when the weather is nice).  Shifting would be a pain.

Motorcycle - fun, gears, nice sound when shifting, quick, macho, good fuel economy, etc. etc.


Scooter - no shifting, twist and go  , has floor for groceries, etc. (this was a big factor in my decision)  comfortable seating... and all other features good for a senior (older) person with a wife riding pillion....

If the wife permits, I will get a vintage motorcycle for personal trips... been searching the web just before I read this thread...


Talk about fuel economy here, a popular Honda here is the CB110,... 200 miles per gallon... I rest my case...

Yes, considered.
Either traditional shifting or (semi-)automatic with rocker switch oder dual clutch.
But I have no real reason to spend money for a new bike.

the reason why people dont get a motorcycle is so they dont have to worry about haveing insureance
or a cycle indorsment for it. A scoot is a jump on and ride thing.

I've considered a Kinroad Chopper, since it's lovely to cruise around on it even at low speeds. The only con is that it is very small and i would rather have a real motorcycle when i get older instead of a 50cc. But it would be cool to use it to learn to change gears for when i'm going to take the license for MC

Manual gear shifting ? Come on, it's 2012 !!!

Been there done that, Yamaha Enduro, Yamaha RD, a whole range of cars...  But I always liked my automatic bikes better than the manual shifters, and nowadays I also drive a car with automatic transmission every now and then...

From here on it's strictly automatic for me, unless I need some vehicle that's only available in "manual shiftiness", like an offroad bike or something...

Manual gear shifting is an unnecessary distraction at least - and on a bike it can, in some situations, even be dangerous to make a mistake or have the gearbox misbehave...

I luv sport and standard motorcycles in particular and have owned many.  However, when it comes to having an allrounder, there's nothing that compares with a scoot'.  I use it to go to meetings (carries everything I need), shopping, touring and fun.  The flat floor, automatic transmission, ride quality and unassuming nature are just right for me.  Most other bike riders respect the scoot' as the "real thing", except some egomaniac, loud-pipe twin riders, and they don't count.

Buy a geared Vespa, get best of both worlds. Im dreading going back to my Kymco once the heavy winter comes in, gears are great  Twist & go isnt bad, dont get me wrong, just prefer gears and better efficiency of the Vespa engine with direct drive, no belts, no chain.

Hi Streido, Actually I did consider a Stella 2T (2009) when I bought the Kymco since my dealer also sells Genuine scoots. I decided on the twist and go because of slight Arthritis in my hands. I found that having to both actuate the clutch and twist the gear selector was uncomfortable. I have no issue with the Kymco.
