Riding in a Hurricane

Anyone ever ride in a Hurricane? We've got one heaqdig up the east coast (no longer a hurricane by now) but I was thinking of riding through what is left of the eye when it hits just so I can say I rode in a cross fire hurricane.

Did just that as a kid in my 12' motorboat, everyone on the docks were yelling at me to stay in, it was beautiful, the whole bay to myself and hightailed it back home as the coulds got closer.

Loved being a 15 yr old nutcase!

We live outside of Philly so we're on tracked to getting reamed. I'll keep my scooter locked away and dry. Too much respect for her to risk damage and flooding.

08  -- stay inside. No one gets a medal for riding in a hurricane.

I'm with you Wolfman.  I'm on the Jersey side of the Walt and the wind is howling right now and the rain hasn't stopped since last night.  I think you're on this side of the Ben so you and I will get the same thing.  My Yager is in an enclosure and I'm just hoping it holds up.   I think the 80 mph winds may be too much for it.  On TV they have a red dot for where it will hit.  It looks like we're sitting under that dot.  Have fun.
08087 is even closer to the ocean than we are so he better stay inside too.  :)

Here's an update, I'm inside, my shore house is flooded, not sure how bad as I'm 100 mles north where t's safer. Will inspect over the weekend and file an ins. claim.

Life happens, nothing you can do. I'm safe and I hope all of you are as well.

I'd ridden in a typhoon while living in Taiwan some years back.  Even took a video, but it didn't really come out all that well.  Certainly not like the hurricane videos that you'd typically see on the nightly news.

Anyway, I'd have to say it's one of the stupider things I've done.  The wind and rain are manageable, and don't ride through flooded areas.  But the flying/falling debris can be deadly as can landslides (if you happen to be nearby anyplaces prone to that).  Best advice would be to heed the other's advice and stay safe...

Not to mention the danger of down power lines. Not being able to see, or be seen is a recipe for disaster.

We got thru OK. Kids and grand kids are all OK.  I'm 74 and have been thru a few of these but nothing like this one.  I can not believe the damage and as unbelievable as it is, I know of no fatalities other than the 2 on the sailboat.  Two of the guys that I had on the bike enclosure snapped but overall, the enclosure appears to be OK.  I have to clean up the yard but that's it.
UPDATE; Over 50 fatalities.
