Question on changing the boss on a 2013 AG 50

So i intend on changing the boss this weekend.  Is the process the same as indicated in this link - pretty much the same? http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=6198.0

Also do I really need an impact wrench?  I have a variety of socket wrenches but will go to home depot to purchase an impact wrench if absolutely necessary.

I also purchased a non restricted CDI from monsterscooters and installed it just to test and see if the CDI that came with the scoot was restricted.  definitely see and feel a difference so am assuming the stock cdi is restricted.

any advice...guidance would be appreciated.

BTW, as the topic indicates, per the dealer i purchased this from and from the sticker on the scoot, it is a 2013.

yes its the same. you can youtube on how to take the nut off there are many ways of doing it but yet at the same time becarefull doing it. a impact is the best way. but can be done with out they make hand tools for this also or you can make your own.

I changed to smooth boss and 82 main jet and am giong 36to 43 I havnt had the money to do any thing else. I also have 2013 with800km on it. Be careful I bought the smooth boss and jet from the dealer I bought it from and he made a note on his computer that I was derestricting my scoot. He is also a A Hole but it only cost 10$

You wont get the variator nut off without using some kind of method of stopping the variator/shaft moving as you turn the nut. Either a special removal tool, an impact wrench or the method jamming something against the variator teeth, which i dont feel safe doing myself.

An impact wrench is the _worst_ way to do it for more than one reason....

I suggest you get yourself a decent blocking tool, or _carefully_ try one of the ways to improvise with different tools if you're confident about your skills with tools in general - there's plenty of guides out there on youtube etc...


Edit : beware : don't try the two stroke way of blocking the piston through the spark plug hole, for a four stroke engine, with its spark plug placed sideways, that method is even worse than using an impact wrench...

I agree the removal tool is prob the safest and best way to do it Mono but i also never had any issues so far using an impact wrench. I think it should be fine using one if its just the low power type ones for home use, using a high power industrial one would be another story tho. You may well be right saying its bad for the scoot but i always used one on this and another scoot and i had no problems from it, yet.  :D

I did strip the threads off the nut off the rear pulley once, but thats it so far.

i could not get the variator nut off - too tight.  so i went ahead and bought an impact wrench from home depot and will try again tomorrow. i ran out of light today.  when using the impact wrench, i guess i would still need to jam something against the variator teeth to keep it from spinning. i used an open ended wrench to keep the variator from spinning but the nut was just too tight.

If you use impact you don't need to hold varaitor

roger that.  i intend to just use the impact wrench to remove and a regular wrench when putting things back.  any torque specs when tightening the nut? if none, i'll just tighten as best as i can.   thanks!

i did not go full throttle with just replacing the cdi.  Based on the input from the folks in this forum, recommendation was not too.  change in pick up was definitely noticeable.

i am done with replacing the boss.  was a pain to put the belt back.  used a philips, put it in the hole in the middle where the variator goes in, and used it as leverage to get the belt in position.  once it got in the threads, it was easy to maneuver over the boss.  did a test run and went over 40mph on flat.   close to 45.  this is good enough for me so i can at least keep up with vehicles on business roads.
