250 vs GT 200i

We might be adding another scooter to our collection.

I'm comparing the People 250 to the GT 200i

I am a little curious why Kymco discontinued the 250 and added the 200 - ideas ?

The 200 seems to have 4 valves where as the 250 spec sheet doesn't say.

I prefer the radiator location on the 250 - as best I can tell it is high and safe.
The 200 has it low - behind the wheel - seems like to would get a lot of road scum and more likely to get damaged.

What do you guys think about these two scoots ?

Better to buy a used 250 or a new 200 ?

The GT 200 is identical to the GT 300, its just has a 205cc engine.

The S250 and the GT200 have about the same power. The GT200 has fuel injection and 4 valves to get more power out of the smaller engine. And will get better fuel mileage. The GT200 has Kymco's latest technology.

The S250 has a carb and  and would be easier to work on at home. No electronic fuel injection. But fuel injection has its advantages. Easier starting and no gummed up carb if allowed to set for extended periods. Both are liquid cooled.
 
The GT200 is heavier at 364. The S250 is 348.

People say the GT 200 and 300 handle much better than the S250. I can't say as I haven't ridden a GT200/300.

The S250 has way more under seat storage. The GT200 has very little storage under the seat.

They both have the same size wheels.

Purchase price would be much lower on the S250.

I have an S250. I though about trading it in on a GT300 and decided to keep the S250. It does every thing I need in a scooter. I am not disappointed with it. I have had no problems with it. It runs really well and gets between 60 to 70 mpg depending how I ride it.

Ride them both and decide which one better fits your needs.

Though I haven't ridden a GT200i, I did sit on one.  And for me, the seat on it is more comfortable (and a little lower) than on the S 250.

Now, I wish that I would have bought one instead of my S 250 though it is my understanding that the S 250 is a little faster and that's what I was looking for at the time.   Also, in my case, the S 250 that I bought was sold to me as new (zero miles & a  2 yr warranty) and a huge discount in price.

The dealer would not discount the 200i or I would have bought it.   And old geezer is right, the 200i has less underseat storage but it has a small glove box and it comes standard with a top case.

The maintenance intervals are longer on the 200i and fuel injection is nice to have.

If I had it to do over again, I would buy the 200i.

How do you compare your S250 to the Burgman ?

It's no comparison - the Burg 400 has the S 250 beat in all areas except for weight.

Burg is faster, much more comfortable, has much more storage space, handles very well, lower seat height, more  aftermarket accessories, and longer service intervals.  And it's actually a little easier to make tight turns with because the fuel injection is smoother than the carb on the S 250. 

There are probably more things I'm sure, but those are off the top of my head right now.
