I got the same growling at take off sometimes on my -09 500 r. also have a wisseling sounds when driving at 70 kmh and its very anoying. had it at the workshop and they rugged up the edges in the clutch, ( the sounds comes from that the gripping part of the clutch gets worn, like shined when its supposed to be a rugged surface. anyway two weeks after its been in the workshop the growling is back so i just think that the clutch is of a bad quality.
So i heard of a brand called malossi a scooter sparepart brand for tuning and found this, maybe its time for a change?? check the link!!!!

I think this cluth might get our scooter a quicker take off too.. =)

..The glazing is a normal occurance..the pads are kinda rough when new, however they will glaze over after a few miles of riding..

..if the shop didn't rough the pads evenly, or if they disfigured them or the springs at all, that could cause an unbalanced condition in the clutch that might be contributing to your growl..

..quicker take-off can be achieved by installing stiffer springs in the fly clutch..

..I've had good experiences with Malossi products..Installed a Malossi variator in my Agility 50 that put me over 50mph..

peace

Jan, mine is smooth as glass at 130 KPH, that as fast as I have had it.  At 110 KPH (about 70 MPH) I can hardly feel it running.  Something is out of balance.  I would try the tires first before I got into looking at the drive train.  If under warranty take it to the dealer and have them check the balance, especially the rear tire.

If it re-occurs you can install lighter fly springs to allow a better "bite" on the clutch.

going back up the threads there is mention of "idle at 1400-1600 rpm " or some such values....idle on my machine was set at 750rpm ...and I found that too fast and slowed it down

There may be something out of round, or out of balance in your clutch. Perhaps a shoe not moving freely. Try to push them toward a new part since it has come right back w/ the same problem! Not to hi-jack but how many people have FACTORY trained mechanics at their dealers? The closest dealer to me has their son working for them, and hires his friends when they are out of school. NONE are certified in anything!

you are 100% right - will push them to replace the clutch - the rest is perfect!

Mine had this growling sound too! Every time it growls i would clean the clutch and its back to normal but after a thousand or more kms it comes back again. Drilled some holes on the clutch bell, more than 2tkms now and still no growling. Better and smoother acceleration.

What do the holes do? I'm sure I don't understand!
