[Pedant mode]just to clarify it is NOT EGR, EGR puts exhaust gas into the intake system (hence the R for recicrculating) this is secondary air - where air is added to the exhaust to post burn unburnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust, EGR reduces fuel consumption and NOx emissions secondary air reduces HC emissions [/Pedant mode]
