time for the water to boil out of your oil so you'll get water into your bearings.
..water in your oil??
Better: fuel. But fuel contains small amounts of water anyway. In a cold engine the piston rings cannot seal exactly and small amounts of fuel (condensed at the cylinder wall) end up in the oil.
Imho the oil sump does not have a signifikant open connection to the atmosphere.

..agreed about fuel in the oil...

..hell, you can smell the fuel when draining...

Well that's how they describe it. The crankcase is connected to the intake tract which
is connected to the atmosphere. The walls of the engine get cold and cause moisture
to condense on the surface. My old Aprilia liked to suck gas into the crankcase it
seems to be a design feature on those bikes.

The crankcase is connected to the intake tract which

..i have an open filter on my a50..which disconnects the valve cover's vent tube from the airbox...

..with the tube connected to the airbox, it creates a suction, which actually draws oil vapor into the airbox from the valve cover...

..most of the vapor condensates there, and can be drained off, but a certain small amount enters the air flow into the carb...

I heard about the condensation forming if all you do is short commutes on cars, so i guess scoots are the same, but like Word i have never had any water in my oil. I have seen it happen on older cars i owned in the past, tho for me personally i dont think its an issue on my 50cc scooter. It may be if all i did was short journeys all year but i dont, so it doesnt seem to be.
Chaos is my co-pilot.
