Anyone having Kymco battery issues?

If you use the bike regularly there is no need for a tender. Here in the great white north
the weather could be good all season or cold until August. If the scoot sits for a week or
two it can hurt the battery. I never used one either until I crashed my dirt bike and the
battery died from sitting and they wanted $80 for a 6 AH battery!

 I'd take the free battery, why not? You at least have new ones for 2 years then you can upgrade!

TroutBum......My battery lost all it's water  staying on the battery tender (winter).  I had the same problems trying to start my scoot.  I pulled the battery and the cells were pretty dry.  I filled with distilled H2O and let sit for a few hours.  The scoot started right up!  No problems since.

Check the fluid level in the battery twice a year especially if on a battery tender over the winter.  There should be no need to put on the tender between rides unless there is a charging problem, or unless the scoot sits for more than several weeks at a time.  Mine easily lasts a month without putting on the tender.

filling with water is ok but they do sale battery acid for 10.00 at walmart works pretty good.my hold battery is stell working on it.

My battery went pretty quick last winter.  I only use it to go to the gym in the winter and then it is only a 1 mile ride.  Now I haven't been able to ride since Christmas eve.  It really doesn't get charged very well.  I put in a new battery and now keep it on the tender during the winter.  When the weather gets better and I can ride more, I'll stop using the tender.

if you are only doing short rides the battery wont charge realy good the long rides is what charges the battery.I do mostly short rides in the winter then put it on a charger twice a week mybe just ounce a week.

Not wanting to wait I took my battery in to an auto parts store. The load test showed my battery needs replacing so I will see my dealer for a warranty replacement. The guy at the auto parts store said to be sure that the battery gets the proper initial charge. Charging systems on scooters and many motorcycles can only maintain a battery. Short rides decrease a battery's ability and even if you go fo a long ride will not bring a battery up to a full charge, but maintain the battery charge rate at the time you started the engine.

The correct way to initialize a battery is to fill it with acid and let it rest a while (to cool down)
then charge it at the 1/10th rate for 24 hours or so (till fully charged). Many bike shops dump in
the acid then slap it into the bike, it's lifespan will be shortened up to 1/2!

this is all true. But you stell need to throw the battery on a charger or maintainer once in a while just to bring it up to full charge.

It took a while to get to my dealer for a battery replacement. They tested the battery and sure enough as the auto parts store told me it needed replacing. The dealer handed me a warranty replacement Kymco battery. When I got home and hooked it up I noticed the head light was really dim. When I hit the starter button it made a slight clicking sound and nothing more. !@#$% Kymco battery! It was just my luck that it was Saturday night and the dealer had closed for the day and would not be reopening until Tuesday. A pisser since this was a three day weekend that had clear blue skies and temps in the 60s in San Jose, CA. Returned to the dealer on Tuesday and sure enough the test showed it was a bad battery, again. The dealer said enough of the OEM crap and placed on the charger a Yuasa battery.  They told me to come back the next day so it can charge proper. I picked up the battery. Hopefully I will have time before this weekend to hook it up. I really hope this is the last of my battery woes.

Nope, you should be fine. Unless you leave the scoot unused for a while the battery ought to be ok. If you plan on leaving it sitting then remove the battery and/or use a battery tender to keep it from fully discharging and going dud.

Just make some visual inspections once in a while...  Some bad batteries become bloated.. check for corrosion on the terminals and loose nuts/connections....  While you at it, check your fuse holders for loose connections and corrosion.  The fuses are just next to the battery.
