GT300I?
« on: January 12, 2013, 09:08:37 PM »
What is the correct name?  This forum says GT300I. I just bought one and my scooter and owners manual both say GTI300. Let's get on the same page. Which is correct?

Kymco identifies the model on its webpage as the "People GT 300i".  While the manuals on Chinese bikes have come a long way you still encounter some translation errors.  The very early Japanese manuals, in particular, Kawasaki's manuals were often funny in translation errors.

The GT bikes are Gran Touring but are just your regular run of the mill bikes.

The GTi bikes are much faster as they are Gran Touring Intense.

Next years Super Gran Touring Intense should be out of this world!

To add to the confusion the badge on the bike reads: "GTi 300".  I hope Kymco engineering has their act better together than Kymco marketing has.

I believe they had GTi on the Yager but the service manual and other places show it as GT 200i.

I think they had a change of heart and decided 200i would indicate fuel injected as the newer stuff
seems to go by that.

I took the badges off my scoot as I want it to say 170i to give the 200's their due...

..i remember when the first one was advertised...

..it was GT 300i....back in th day...

..i remember, because i fell in love with the styling at first sight...

..the "i" signified "injected"...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..

I own one & I always refer to it as GT300i. Poor thing is sitting in a warehouse collecting dust until April. Sucks is some ways to live in the Northeast.

Ditto to that MassScoot. Mine's brand new at the dealer and all I could do is sit on it. I've ordered a Biondi windshield also. How do you like yours? I'm also putting on a Shad Cargo 40 top box so I can remove it when I want. Add a few reflective graphics and lighter sliders in the variator and I'm ready to go.

Mr. Mike: Sorry for the late reply....I haven't hit these boards in a while. I love my Biondi windshield as it's just the right size. Where did you purchase yours? I got mine from Scooterville in Minnesota for $167.00 shipped.

Sucks that my scooter in sitting idle. I did just come back from my parents home in Florida. Last November I purchased a Super 8 150cc to keep down there. So...I got about 250 miles worth of scootering in.

Yep got it at Scooterville also. Just saw your post on mirror extenders and was wondering if you can use the bolts that come with the Biondi installation kit, or do you need longerones with the extenders?

Let me follow-up on that. As you know...The Biondi windshield affords for more extention within itself. I had my local wrench install them for me with some Loctite #242 Threadlocker. It really puts the mirrors way out & I can see everything behind me. It always amazed me that scooter manufactuers produce such stubby mirror stems! In my younger days I would have installed this myself....but I'm getting older & fat (& lazy), so I let him do all my oil, coolant changes etc. I love this gig I have....The guy works for the local Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha & Kymco dealer, I bring my GT300i to his house & he does all the work for half the labor rate! I think the bolts are standard as he never mentioned to me to changed them out. But...He could have. I'll call him tonight to confirm.

Thanks for the follow up. I won't pick up the new scoot till April, but the windshield is in my cellar waiting. I'll just try the extenders that come with it to see how they work.

Mike: He is not exactly sure...but he think he may have used different bolts. He's not 100% on that. I would take a peek for you...but it's somewhere @ the local Kymco heated warehouse. Give a quick look & report back for the other of GT300i owners who might be interested.
