Need some assistance on 500RI

Hello all. I would appreciate assistance from the Xciting 500 brain trust.

I have a 2009 USA model Xciting 500 RI. This is a non ABS. I bought it recently as a used scooter at a good price. It is well maintained with low mileage and overall very good condition. In checking things out I found a couple of oddities.  i opened the panel over the fuel tank and there is a rubber hose (about the diameter of a fuel hose) that is not connected and a 2 wire connector that is not connected. i cannot seem to find what they should be connected to? The fuel pump hose is connected as is the fuel gauge wire that goes to the tank. Everything seems to work OK. I do most all my own work and maintenance, and have had many maxi scooters, so working on the scoot is not an issues. i have checked my Cyclepedia electronic service manual and the photos do not show these. Any suggestions?

Some people have had problems with the carbon canister. On some scoots if you overfill the gas
tank it will flood the carbon canister and make for hard starting. I'm guessing that's what the
disconnected hose is...

the wire is probably for a different country ,  put a meter on it and try different things , lights, turn syg., etc. 
   the tubing,  haft to know what it is hooked too, it may be a vent tube,

The connecter is a bypass for the sidestand kill switch.

If you want your scoot to run with the sidestand down, just switch it to the other connecter next to it. Just don't hit the throttle, or the scoot can run away.

The hose is probably for the collection of fuel vapors from the tank, so look for a charcoal cannister as mentioned already.

WOW! did not expect such a response so soon. Thanks!

The loose hose being related to the carbon can makes sense. I had another look at the hose and it runs from the rear of the scooter along the left side (if sitting on the scoot) of the frame tube over the tank. So I would assume it goes back to the injector as it looks like the can may be farther forward -- not sure. i have had scooters & motorcycles where I have removed the carbon cans before. I will screw a bolt into the hose to seal it off and see if that makes a difference in the engine running.

As for the loose connector, the sidestand switch works -- the scooter will not start with the side stand down, so is it likely something else? i will try the suggestion of checking it with a meter as that makes sense.

As a side note, I will be rebuilding my air filter into a UNI hi flow foam filter and plan to document the conversion. I have done similar a few times before with good results. and the cost is under $15US. I'll post when I get it finished.

ebay motors under xciting 500 & parts and accesories has two types of K&N style filters for sale. One is from DNA @ about $60-$70. And another for around $52.00 I think. Much better than foam.  :-*

No the 2 pin connector allows you to defeat the side stand switch. Short the two wires
and the bike thinks the side stand is down all the time.

KN makes good filters, I have them iin both my cars and have used them on motorcycles too. Not sure about DNA brand. But Uni foam (and No Toil foam) are top notch as well. Reason I plan to make my own is due to cost, ease of cleaning, and better flow. Getting more air flow makes a huge difference here (5300ft). And I ride at elevation over 12K ft. Besides, most air intake systems are designed to be a balance between quiet, rather than performance, so I will ne modding the air box as well.  I did airbox mod on our 05 Burgman 400 (which came with a foam filter stock) and it will beat the Xciting in a drag race up to 50mph (it also has dr pulley sliders). From the looks of it, the Xciting air intake system is very restrictive.

OK, now that makes sense. i'll give it a try. I have the wire clips of the size to make a jumper.

Here's another issue I have. I need to do some repainting on the white body panels. In contacting Kymco USA they do not have the paint code. Anyone know the code for the 09 white?

I agree with that. The intake on my Yager was a tiny hose that comes from the front of the seat. In the middle
it has a coupler that reduces it to 3/4". It has a 90 degree bend inside the airbox. I removed the 90 degree elbow
and put a heater hose to the seat which maintains 1" all the way into the box. Now she runs great! You had to wait
a little bit before for the REV's to build, now no problem!

I may give the airfilter a bit more surface area once it needs replacing.

The piping into the throttle body is tuned so I didn't mess with that.

Yes, both my cars and my last 7 bikes/scoots have have had airbox mods and hi flow filters. All benefitted greatly. The X500 airbok is hard to get to, but eventually I will pull off the rear panels and mod it too.
