Hello. My name is BJ. I am a forum member, ride an Xciting 500RI and am the former editor of Scooter Rider Magazine. I have published my first book on scooter touring trips. Scooters that are featured are Kymco, Suzuki and Vespa. The trips cover Florida to Maine & Back, California to Florida, CA Hwy-49, and the Natchez Trace Parkway. The word count is about 24,000 and there are over 50 color photos.

Welcome to the forum BJ. Kymcos are great bikes. If you have the time, I would suggest you look at attending the annual Vegas Highrollers Scooter Rally happening Feb 28-March 3rd, 2013. These guys pay tribute to the modern scooter culture of the 1960's when it took off in England.  Many of the riders have the vintage Vespas and Lambrettas. This is where the term Mod life got the term it has now. Kymco is one of the major sponsors of the rally. For more info, go to www.lvscooterrally.com. Happy riding to you.

I loved the scooter magazine that you put out a few yrs back - I have all of the issues.

In fact, check out the BurgmanUSA site.  There is a discussion about why we don't have any scooter magazines in the USA.   You might find that interesting reading.

I will be buying all of your books in the very near future!

Hello and thanks for the kind words. Glad to hear you were a dedicated SRM subscriber and I hope you enjoy my book. I sold Scooter Rider Magazine (SRM) at the end of 2006. I hated to do this but was getting pestered by a group that wanted to buy the mag. i also predicted the downfall of print magazines and felt electronic was the way to go for the future. The group never produced an issue, and as part of the terms, the rights reverted back to me. I went to work for Apple for 3 full years and then started my company, MacEducator.com which is my full time work.  Apple also transferred me from Florida to Colorado. In July 2009, while riding home from work I was hit at an intersection. I was pretty busted up and my beloved custom Silver Wing was totaled. The following summer I rode adventure bikes for a while. Had a great time but missed maxi-scooter touring and sold my motorcycle.

Assuming you enjoy my book, I would appreciate your giving it a good review on Amazon. I am already working on my next scooter-related books, a how-to book on scooter touring and adventure and a how-to tech scooter tech book. Obviously, book sales are what allow me to do this work -- the more sales, the more I can produce. So please feel free to post notice of my book to any forums and blogs you feel might be interested.

BJ, thank you for the reply and the update on your activities since selling SRM.   Sorry to hear about the collison and I hope that you've healed completely.  I'm also glad that you are back to riding scooters and writing about them.

I posted a link to your current book on the BurgUSA forum in the "General Discussion" and "Aftermarket & Accessories" sections.  It sounds like the travel reports in your book are the ones (or similar) that I read in SRM several years ago.  I really enjoyed reading them and have read them several times.

But it will be nice to have them on my Kindle eReader to take with me where ever I go.   I hope that you make announcements when your other books are released.

Really enjoyable reading, BJ! The blurb on Amazon about making the Pac Nor'west hit many of the spots wife and I made BS (before scooters). Never thought about hostels until you suggested it. Easy to read style is appreciated, sorta like conversation.

How does an experienced rider get nailed at an intersection? I am experienced as a rider and know that and $1.75 might get a cup of coffee somewhere and is NO guarantee against being nailed, injured, scoot destroyed and so on. Hope all you have left over is a built-in weather forcaster that is practically assured after such injuries. Keep on riding and sharing your experiences.

Go to McMinnville, OR sometime and visit Evergreen's aviation museum with the "Spruce Goose" inside with some pretty large aircraft under its wings. Hard to believe something that big is made out of wood.
