While still under warranty my super8 broke down. Kymco dealer is fifty miles away making for an expensive tow. Hoping that a simple fix that I pay for ,would be cheaper than the tow to where kymco would pay, I towed it to the local shop. They diagnosed the problem. Broken cam chain had shredded motor.
Then they told me that they were no longer working on "Chinese scooters".AAAARGH!
Between the short tow and diagnosis, I was now in for 200.00. Talked to kymco trying to get them to agree to send a new motor to local Honda shop for replacement but it was a no go as I assumed it would be.
Cost to tow to dealer? 300.00! That puts me in for 500.00 before kymco even looks at it.
Anyway, I sold the carcass and now ride a Honda pcx150.
This thread is not to bash kymco. I loved my super8, and feel a broken cam chain was a fluke, not an indication of quality!
Kymco needs to find a way to expand their network. Make it easier to become a dealer, or figure a way so that independent repair shops with certified mechanics could do warranty work. Heck, make some kind of a deal with walmart to carry parts,and DIY would be way more convenient. As it stands, in 90% of Florida it is impractical to own a  kymco.
Anyway, that's why I ride a Honda instead of the gti300 which I like better!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. When I purchased my scooter I decided to include towing coverage on my insurance. I figured that during the warranty period I would have a way to get the bike to my dealer(20 miles away) if necessary. You are correct about the fact that Kymco needs to expand their network. Anyway, enjoy your new Honda! ;)

Been there done that I took my agilty in for warrenty.Work and had to replace the crank and the timeing chain. they took me for 300.00 and billed me 700.00 but I put up a big fight over it so I walked away paying 200.00 Becarefull kymco well take you. I love there scoots but the warrenty sucks. Also my scoot was in 3 shops and 5 months later I got my bike back. If you ask me if I would buy a kymco again I would.

Next time put an add on craigs list for someone to trailor it for you. Give the guy $100 for his trouble and he rides you home on his return after the drop off. Once fixed have a friend drive you for pick up and ride home.

Nothing wrong with the Honda, love the bike myself but next time post up before you make a move like the last one. we'll save you some money (50 mile tow for a scoot).

  I have a 2004 toyota sienna van 400, 000 km. on it, I bought a bike carrier ramp across the back of van ,. cost 240.00 dollars cheeper state side of the border,. I have used it three times so far, and once for a trip across the country, 10,000 km. thats a little more than 6,000 miles,  the only cost was replacing the air lift bags in Portland Or. $ 110.00    and I changed them myself,. my scooter is a 300i DT. wt. 366 lb.s about max for the van,

1st thing you did wrong was messing with a scoot thats still under warranty. Without Kymco go ahead this would prob null and void any warranty you had.

50 miles aint really that far is it? Dont know about your prices over there but i know here i could hire a small van for 4hrs, thro the scoot i the back and do the round trip for under £40-£45, inc the van hire?

Better luck with the Honda  ;)

I am surprised you do not know anyone with a pickup truck. On my old bike, I got stuck out literally in the middle of nowhere. I was on my way back to Vegas from Jean, Nevada when the drive belt literally split apart. I was thirty miles from home and I was able to call a buddy of mine who had a pickup truck. I paid him $30 for gas to come out and pick me and my bike up. Was this connection worth it? You bet your ass it was worth it.  It is always good to have friends who have pickup trucks. You should get to know at least one person with one of these if you do have towing and road side assistance on your insurance. Even AAA is wonderful too. I am so sorry to see you moving on. Yup, It's good to have friends with pick-up trucks or vans. Yes, your scoot was still under warranty and you should have brought it to Kymco.  Now, you've lost the fun owning a Kymco which is priceless...
