Can Am Spyder update
« on: February 08, 2013, 12:14:01 AM »
After two months of ownership of the 09 Spyder RS the honeymoon continues. I had a lot of misgiving after trading my Kymco 500Ri. The whole ride experience was different. The big front end of the Spyder with the two tires up front totally changes how you navigate curves. The lean into the curve or turn is totally eliminated and so is some of the fun we have on a 2 wheeler. The Spyder has a V twin 998cc engine and generates 106 hp. It has a semiautomatic transmission and gears are changed without a manual clutch but with a paddle on the left handlebar. As the Spyder slows down to a certain RPM it will auromaticaly downshift. really miss the handbrake levers as this beast is stopped by a foot brake on the right side. All in all it is a very comfortable safe ride and I'm having a ball with it. Just wish I could have kept the 500Ri.

Vivo my good friend,
I can think of no one more deserving than you to be the Spyderman of the PI! You work hard and a toy like this would be a good reward. All I can say is go for it! Your friend

Mike, maybe when I retire and the kids have finished college, I might consider one... I saw a used 2011 model once and it costs (in dollars) around 16,000.00  My God! that is a lot of money!  How about a Chinese copy? hmmmm....

Chinese Can-Am 250cc  around $4,000.00

this one is a Peugeot Metropolis...

I think you mean a chinese "scam-am"......Lol.

I have one in the garage with my other scoots, it's all scooter and a rather expensive slow one at that. it's a "sheep in wolves clothing".  That said its a hoot to ride and its a conversation starter. But it's no BRP Can Am.

Now that's bad azzed !

Yes the knock-off  spyder is slow, 50 mph max. (with the wind at your back). The litte CN-250 clone is a great little motor but is way overmatched by the heavy trike. Add in the resistance of three small car tires and it's just plain slow. I live at sea level god forbid you add in a hill.......

Well, 50mph is more than enough for a small town/city...the question would be the acceleration to 50? 30 seconds? 45?  ;D ;D ;D
