2008 People 2T - C.A.R.B certified?
« on: February 09, 2013, 03:16:41 AM »
Hi - I found a 2008 People 2T that I want to purchase. The wrinkle is that the scooter has been brought into California from Colorado with a lapsed registration. After numerous searches online, I can not find out if the 2008 models are C.A.R.B certified, a requirement to register the scooter in California.

Can anyone confirm that the 2008 model for certified for sale in 50-states?

Thanks ahead!

Not all States have the same laws and the year model is not the issue... most 2 strokes can't pass the emission standards so they can't be registered in California. However, the California law states that 2 strokes made before 1970 need not be CARB approved to be registered.  Scoots bought in California that are CARB certified have stickers on them saying so, no sticker means not CARB certified.  Best way is to get a scoot from California or ask DMV if there is a way to have the scoot certified.

Thanks for the reply Vivo. I'm going to inspect the bike again and see if I can locate the sticker. What's interesting is that Kymco lists C.A.R.B certified for their 2009-current models on the product pages. I just don't know about the 2008...  fingers crossed I can find the sticker. From what I've read, as long as it's on the bike I can get in registered in California.

If the scoot was not bought in California, it won't have the sticker...I think...

Thanks for the perspectives Vivo & Peters. I passed on the 2008 People 50, and got a 2009 People 150 with 800 miles on it for $1100! Latter is registered in CA, so registration at DMV will be a snap. Ready to rip.  8)
