Value of Xciting 500?
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:23:47 AM »
Friend of mine died and left wife with '12 Xciting 500,  1500 mi,  red,  absolutely like new.  Not sure if its ABS or not,  has trunk but not sure if GIVI or other.  She seems to think its worth 6K but I have doubts.  Give me some reasonable thoughts on this if you have any knowledge of that size machine.  I'm not interested so not looking to low ball her;  just trying to provide some useful advice.

The MSRP is about $6,800.  I see used ones for sale at dealers for $4,500.

Good luck.

Check Kelly Blue Book - they have a section on Motorcycles.

Looking for a non-ABS for 2012, they show:
-> Trade-In price is $3,380 (http://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/kymco/xciting-500-ri/2012-kymco-xciting-500-ri/trade-in/), and

-> Retail price *when purchased from a dealer* is listed as $4,915 (http://www.kbb.com/motorcycles/kymco/xciting-500-ri/2012-kymco-xciting-500-ri/suggestedretailvalue/ ).

I'd think that asking retail would be fine, but be prepared to accept the average of the 2 as being a fair price.

Also, not sure what one could expect from the trunk add-on.  Perhaps looking on e-bay for the same item by itself could give some guidance as to how much that part should add to the value of the scoot.

According to the Kymco USA website, the MSRP is $6,900. This is a bargain compared to what a new Vespa GTV 300cc scooter goes for. The MSRP on those scooter is $7,000 to $8,000.  Then again they are Vespas and you are paying for the world's most popular scooter. See if you can get the price down to $5,000 to $5,500 which includes the doc fees and registration fees. This would be a good deal.
