A new Like 50 or keep my People S 50?
« on: March 01, 2013, 04:00:02 AM »
Hello Kymco owner, i'm from Montreal Quebec, Canada and winter is almost finish here! ::)

I have a Kymco People S 50 2007 (4 strokes) with a 72cc kit. But when i see the new LIKE 50 2T i fall in love whit it!
I buy the People 50 S beacause i have enough space for me and my wife, the suspension was strong and 16" wheels.
But the 4 stroke motor is slow even with the 72cc kit and malossi variator.

Do you think the Kymco LIKE 50 have the same space for 2 adults of the People S and the suspension is enough strong for 2?
When i check the picture, the seat of the LKE look the same length!

Thank for your help, beacause i don't know if i change my scooter this spring!? ;)

Overall, the Like is smaller...shorter, narrower, lower, smaller wheels...

I was loved that People S series with that body. I owned the People S200 a few years back & it was bullet-proof. The problem with you S50 is that the frame is heavy & it's a 4-Stroke. You're always better off with a 2-Stroke when dealing with a 50cc engine. If you keep the Like 50cc stock...It may be a tad faster then your tricked-out S50. Kind of a lateral move. Why not jump into a 150cc-200cc scooter?

So the LIKE 50 it's smaller than the People S, i ask the question beacaus here in Montreal, all the dealer are going to have the Like only in March~ April. I never see one in real!
I know, my PEOPLE S have a big frame and 16" wheels and the little 4 strokes work hard.
I dont know why they didn't put a 2 stoke on it!?

Here in Quebec, it's complicate to have motocycle licence driver and it's very expensive to take the course. Plus we have winter time, so we use scooter around 6 months only...

I wait the dealer receive the LIKE and see in real the size of the scooter before i think to sell my People S. When i'm alone on my scooter the top speed is around 42~46 Mph with the 72cc cylinder.

Thank's! :D

try changeing out your rollers that might give you more top end. go with 5.5 to 7 gram rollers.
and do you have open air box your stock. In my state we can only ride 1 person on a scoot under 50 cc so we cant have 2 on a scoot. and yes if ride in the cold a lot I would go with a 2 stroke.

Don't know what the Canadian Emission Laws are,  But I believe most new Scooters in the US anymore are 4 Cycle
because 2 cycles don't necessarily meet the standards anymore.  I personally like larger wheels too.  I have bikes
with both larger and smaller.  Smaller wheels are more squirrely to me,  but this disappears after riding a distance.

if you are riding two up in Montreal the hills will slow you down and the cars will kill you ,. you need the GT 200i so you can hit out for st. bruno and keep up with the traffic,. or come to Ottawa  hull for some driving in the Gatineau park,. the end of march and no snow is near, happy trails and keep the shiny side up  de dee  joe

Yea, De Dee, but i didn't have the motocycle licence driver, why i stay with the 49cc version.

No i think i'm going to put 7g or 8g rollers and put a performance Cam for the valves.
I prefer to stay with the 16" wheels.

Vermi: Good job! I like the People S50 looks so, so much better then the Like 50! Plus I don't care for 12' myself. Tweak it a little more & see if you can squeeze a little more MPH out of her. Plus I sat on a Like 50 & it felt a little in chintzy side, but that's just me. Also....Todays 2-Strokes aren't like they were say 5 or 6 years ago. With all the EPA regulations etc. I owned a TGB "Key West" 50cc scooter (2-Stroke @ 4.9HP) & it was smoking fast just with a simple derestriction, but that's was like 8 years ago...Plus I was 25 lbs. lighter!!!
