Original CDI or a performance one!?
« on: March 03, 2013, 10:37:02 PM »
My Kymco People S 50 with a kit 72cc have the original CDI.
My scooter reaches the speed maximal of 70 km\h only.

I know that the CDI was modify, because he(it) has a light blow of saw in top of the cdi.

I dont know if I wasted my money if i buy a performance CDI(orange)!?

If I change it, that would change in performance!?

Some performance have no restriction on the RPM's. Not sure if that will help you will your People S50. So....You can give it a try. Many times a performance CDI costs less then the Kymco OEM version.

vermi....I did my Agility 50 CDI.  Search for Agility 50 "Derestricting your Agility CDI" around June 7 and 29, 2008.  I would think these models use the same model.  Is it worth it?  As I stated, I gained a little speed as most depends on the wind direction and how much you weigh.   This does not turbocharge your engine in any way.  Just allows a few more RPM's.

A performance Chinese CDI might or might not do anything for your bike. Removing the
red line won't do much if your not hitting it yet. But a good CDI like from a Japanese
motorcycle might make a big difference in performance...

Do you have a brand or a model of this CDI???
And where we buy?

Well I read about it on a Clone engine site. People buy Lifan or other motors and install
them in old Honda's who's motors have seen better days. Someone said his was slow and
would only go 40 MPH (most people get 50 MPH). He said he bought a CDI from a Honda
CM200 or something. I know it was a 200 but not sure the model. If you look at your CDI
and count the pins, then look for a used Honda one on Ebay with the same number of pins
you should be all set. If I can find the place that said that I'll post the info here...

EDIT: Here is the info I had saved it

"After mucho frustration that my 138 (actual 130cc) engine has very
little more horsepower than my 70cc, I changed from the green
connector CDI to the 2 connector XR200 CDI.

Before it was dead after 7500 rpm and now it is pulling strong at 8500"

There are some on Ebay;

Not sure how to wire it in.....
