top speed

What's the top speed on this scooter? I was going downhill for about 1.5km and speedo didnt go over 60mph.
Is there an rpm limiter on them , cause it looked to me that the speed was sorta limited.

Top speed with my 2013 Kymco Super 8 (a tad over 600 miles) is 59MPH (GPS tested) with my fatso frame @ 6' 235 lbs. That was on flat ground as well with very little wind in Florida. My bet is once she is really broken-in (1000+ miles) using some synthetic oil, I might get another 2-3MPH or so (maybe) When I was @ 300 miles & under...It couldn't get her past 53MPH until I hit around 500 miles....she really opened-up. If you're a smaller person...the best you'll get is 63-64MPH IMHO. There is only so much a 150cc, air-cooled engine can do.

If you want to spend an extra grand...The SYM HD200 is the answer @ 15.3HP vs. the Super 8's 9.39HP

Plus the SYM HD200 blows away the looks of the Super 8 IMHO. Not to mention those 16" wheels as well.

Im around 160lb and i was going downhill at that point and it was a decent downhill not so sharp that you need to break or anything.
During the night i went on a motorway and it hit 61-62 and then on a downhill its the same and based on the sound it doesnt rev so hard so i was just curious if its meant to be like that.

I did 3 part exchanges for the past half year so im not getting another one :D

By the way i got rust on suspension which is like on top of the metal and the same with big bolt on right side of the back wheel , should i take care of it or its normal to have such rust? My scooter always stays outside without cover and these are the only parts which started to get covered in rust.

I took in mine for service and tune up and asked the guy about this. He said he works on a lot of Kymcos and from what he sees, it seems they ship them detuned so they operate at maybe 80% capacity. He speculated that this might be because the build quality is not top notch so by shipping them detuned (at 80%) this way the bikes last longer without service.

So given that I take mine on freeways from time to time, he is going to increase the intake and bring up the timing on the engine for it to perform at speedier speed, so we will see what means for top speed. I will report back then.

I spoke with my dealer & he said that the Kymco Super 8 150cc runs very "lean" out of the box too keep the EPA ratings low. He richen my carb. a tad from the get go. I think brake-in is key here. Look...It's a modified GY6 150cc scoot....You'll never really get beyond 60+MPH period. The Super 8 is meant for 40MPH-50+MPH everyday. Use synthetic oil after 700-800+ miles. You can use synthetic gear oil right away. This "might" help a little, but it really depends on your personal weight & size.

Absolutely right MassScoot... a scooter is not about top speed...it's about smooth fun zips around town... As for the poster, things will improve after a few hundred miles... some tuning and some good oiling will do it.

I am Short and Fat at 5'9 and 230
I just got a 2013 Super 8 150 and I love it..
I have gotten it up to 60 after just 200 miles.. you have to scrunch down a bit for aerodynamics
but I am happy with that speed and would love to get a few more miles out of it if possible
but who cares, the bike has style and is fun to drive

I doubt its real , mine shows 70 when on GPS its 62.
So i would agree that its average top speed is around 60 as most of the people stating.

I have to take a 55mph road to work, and I run my scoot at 60mph, that's as  high as I have taken it.  But I do know my speedometer reads 5MPH higher, so my top speed has been about 55.  Don't enjoy going that fast, but on that road there's no choice.  I like 35mph or so, you can enjoy the signts, sounds, and smells.
