« on: March 17, 2013, 11:40:05 PM »
hi all just joined the forum tho been reading as a guest for the last week or so

just bought a 1999 super fever and it wont spark

i think its the stator as im getting no voltage from the black/red wire at the bullet connection when i kickstart the scoot what voltage should i be getting here?

just wondering if there is any other tests i can do to check the stator coil or advice from the forum guru's

thanks in advance

Hi,

 I don't have a wiring diagram for your scoot, so which wire are you testing?
Here's a picture;

Start with the basics, new plug, connection from suppressor cap to ht lead, then the coil and its connections. What country are you in ?

Well make sure you have the meter on AC and you should see a large voltage there
"An AC CDI runs off a moderately high voltage (80-300 volts or so) AC winding inside the stator. "

I have a lot of manuals for Kymco scooters and none of them use AC for the CDI... Maybe it's a US thing?

You can disconnect the CDI connector and measure the resistance of the Blk/red and it should be
100 ohms or more...

thanks for the info and help randy
i'll check the resistance of the blk/red wire tomorrow and post back my results

Stator's don't go that often, it's more likely a CDI fault. Here's what's inside it, if one of those diodes
shorted it might kill the voltage from the stator;

I had the same problem yesterday. My own fault for washing it with a hosepipe. If water gets into the air louvres on the stator cover, it won't spark. I spent an hour with a hair dryer blasting it in and now it fires. I'm in the uk too. If you have any queries, just give me a bell.
The scooter is my sons, but I love messing about with it.

cheers for the offer to call you lee might give you a call if it still dont spark when iv fitted the bits

thanks for the cdi info randy hav'nt had chance to test the stator resistance with the weather
