Rust on disk brake
« on: March 25, 2013, 02:54:20 PM »
SO the DT300 has been sitting only 3 months and I noticed there is some rust from the cut out holes on the disk. Has anyone else noticed this on theirs? It doesn't seem to affect  the breaking any but I'm still going to wire brush it off.

I think you will find your disk is made of steel and any moisture will create some rust!  If you ride in the rain you will probably find the surface will show evidence of rust, however as you use the scoot and the brakes,  the rust will disappear and not effect the braking process!  The way to avoid any surface rust is to install a quality stainless steel disk.           Good Luck,  Ed

Most vehicles, cars, bikes, etc. will have rust on the disc brakes if left unused.  Some rust in three months is great, others have rust only after a few days...

Rust on the brake disks is good! That means you have iron rotors which work better than stainless.
As soon as you use them they self clean. Now if you don't like the rusty look that is a different story...
