I am working on getting  out of the 27 MPH stock depression.  Located adjacent to the battery, under the floor foot rest trap door, 2012 CDI only has 6 wires, much less than older super 8s that required the cutting of one of the 8 wires.   I want to understand if a CDI mod is required.  I know about the carb jets and variator mod requirements.

I don't think the cdi is restricted.

Yep @Vivo might be right
i found something strange after i changed the stock variator to polini vario
The drive boss was the same !!!
So there was not any restriction in vario , i was afraid to cut the wires before changing the vario
so after i cut the wires the performance was very very good
My super 8 is '07 so that's why
Kymco changed restriction year by year ....

They changed the Super 8 to 2t in 2011 and phased out the 4t... the 2t may have the 6 wires and the old 4t , the 8 wires.

I was told that it does and it limits the engine to about 8,000 rpms.  I ordered a de-restricted CDI that is supposed to up that to about 11,500 rpms.  I should have it in a couple of weeks so I will post up if it helps out or not after I receive it.

I received my de-restricted CDI yesterday and I popped it in.  It does sound like it is revving higher now but maybe only by about 1000 rpms.  Top speed doesn't really seem any different maybe like 1-2mph.  However it did seem to help a little with acceleration so that is nice.

My exhaust should be here tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to install it tomorrow as well.  I am hoping for the exhaust and cdi to work well together.  I'll let you know.

I bought a Naraku racing CDI for my Super8 2t from scootertronics. After installing I lost 2mph off the top speed. No low or mid power gains either. Wasted money. The sales rep told me there was not electrical restrictions on the scoot but I decided just to give it a try anyway.

Got more top end speed from changing out the rear driven pulley and getting a slightly longer belt. went from 38mph to 45mph checked with GPS.

PLEASE post the details and sources for the belt and Variator mod you performed.   The 45mph is my goal.

Not sure of the model. I bought a Stage6 rear driven pulley that would close tighter than stock. Also a new Bando belt that was 10mm longer than stock. I did not know what to get. All was purchased and recommended from a scooter shop I visited while on my last visit to Germany.

The scooter preformed the same as before, but just kept going faster until I reached 45.

Since Pimpy is not responding I will help you out.  What I believe Pimpy got was a new clutch assembly.  The Super 8 is restricted in 3 ways now.  Here they are
1. Vario bushing is restricted.  It needs to be replaced with the item below.  The item below also comes with just about any aftermarket variator kit.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/drive-face-boss-vario-bushing-naraku-racing-unrestricted-20x38mm-p-336-1.html?cPath=2_7564_7570&sessID=a3cb0a9acd42e1de8ab2acd74aefac2d
2. The main jet is to small.  It is a size 70 and it needs to be around an 82.  Here is the type you need
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/carburetor-main-jets-keihin-p-306-1.html?cPath=2_21356_21358&sessID=e06f4cd7ac9a375bf44769d106b6f40a
3.  Here is the one most of us are unaware of.  I just figured this out yesterday.  The rear clutch torque converter is also restricted.  It has a small welded lip towards the middle that prevents the belt from going all the way down.  It basically work just like the vario bushing but on the opposite end.  By not letting the belt travel all the way down it is like trapping the scooter in a lower gear.  Remember if the belt can't travel all the way down on the Torque converter that means it also can't travel all the way up on the variator.  The magnifies the problem.  I will add pictures of this below.  The restricted picture is first.  Here is what you need to replace.  Here is a cheap one from ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCOOTER-MOPED-CLUTCH-PADS-ASSEMBLY-GY6-50-50CC-TaoTao-Kazuma-SUNL-ROKETA-Go-Kart-/160664085824?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2568536540&vxp=mtr
Here is a more expensive one.  I can't tell you if it is any better however.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/clutch-pulley-assy-clutch-torque-converter-assy-107mm-p-3684-1.html?cPath=2_7564_7570&sessID=a3cb0a9acd42e1de8ab2acd74aefac2d
Here is an even more expensive one but this one does come with a better clutch.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/clutch-pulley-assy-clutch-torque-converter-assy-naraku-107mm-p-3888-1.html?cPath=2_7564_7570&sessID=a3cb0a9acd42e1de8ab2acd74aefac2d

Now as for the belt I have no idea what Pimpy got. However I did find a belt that is 5mm longer and would work very well.  It is actually for the Kymco Super 8 4t so you know it will work with the Super 8 2t because they use all the same variator/clutch parts.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/drive-belt-malossi-xkevlar-kymco-4stroke-p-8266-1.html?cPath=2_7564_7570&sessID=a3cb0a9acd42e1de8ab2acd74aefac2d

I have all my parts on order so I will let you know how it all works out when I get the clutch assembly on there.  I had upgraded everything else and I could not figure out why the scooter would not go any faster.  I could tell it had the power but for some reason it felt like it was just stuck in a gear.  After a bunch of research I figured out it was the torque converter.  I ordered one today and hopefully I will have it by the end of the week.

Nori, in some places (countries) the 50cc needs no registration/license, so they just get the 50cc... and since these 50cc's are restricted, people just derestrict them to make them a bit faster...
