Like200i in the weather??
« on: April 07, 2013, 10:15:52 PM »
Hello, I am on the very edge of buying a Like 200i - but need to ask if these can deal with sitting in the rain - or very cold days. I will be using it to commute to work in all weather but snow. I live in central Ohio. Will she fire up with no issues at the end of my work day? Really need feedback from you kind owners~!!

Thank you for the comments!
I think I will search out a good cover to place on the scooter each day at work. (She'll be garaged at home)
As a kid I remember seeing fellows in Europe riding their BMWs in all kinds of weather - including light snow in France - so, figured rain and cold should not be too big a deal. I did ride Honda bikes 4 decades ago - and am a very careful driver - "Slow" is my middle name (ask my 6 kids) This Kymco (and looking at Honda scooters) will replace my work car that is now DOA (26 yr old Jetta). At my age, I will be very careful!

I have not ridden in inclement weather at all.

However, here is what I have seen.  The trunk and the under seat storage stays dry even after a thorough washing with a pressure nozzle on a water hose.  The center console storage however does leak.  As far as starting in bad weather, this is where the fuel injection really shines.  As long as your battery is good and the scooter is running right then it WILL NOT have any trouble starting in inclement weather.

Hello and welcome the the forum.  As with any scooter or motorcycle, sitting or operation in rain is not recommended.  Regardless of what brand you purchase, a good quality cover would be highly suggested.  As for the Like, as the other post mentioned, the main thing going for you here is the fuel injection.  I can't stress how great of a feature this is.  Like 200 or not, I would not consider any ride without fuel injection for the type of riding you mention.

As for the build quality of the Like, again the first post nailed it, don't expect any water tight seals in the front storage.  The truck and under seat areas seem pretty good.  As someone who has seen the "insides" of the scoot first hand, I can say the quality of the wiring, connectors, and various other components are as to be expected...which is very good but not quite to pair with the Honda/Vespa stuff.  The fuel lines and various vacuum tubes and even the battery are of very good quality . You may want to upgrade the tires for example.  They are good Kendas, but the stuff Dunlap is making are way better in the wet. I don't think you'd have any issues with the Like as long as you maintain the scoot and use a cover to minimize the effects of inclement weather.

You are getting a great scooter for under $3,000.  It is what it is, but common sense and careful maintenance should get you a long lasting scoot.

Hope this helps, best of luck in whatever you end up with and as always, be safe out there.

Hello, Its a late reply but I rode My black Like thru warm winter of 2012 in Indy where I live. My commute was about 25mi. RT. I only got caught in rain twice as I drove when inclement weather threatened. I kept it under a Motorcycle shed next to the security shack. covered it on threatning days. My temp. limit was around 35deg. in morning. Is kept in attached garage at home. Still loving the ride!

Our country is hit by more than 20 typhoons a year... lots of rain and flood... and my Super 8 never failed me, not even once... I don't think you'll have a problem with your Like...
