2005 Kymco People 50 abandon in my garage, can I sell it?
« on: April 09, 2013, 01:04:11 AM »
I just moved in a house and a 2005 Kymco people 50 was left in my garage. I do not know the previous owner or could contact them. is there any way I could sell it without title or key? maybe someone could use it for parts.

Shouldn't be hard to get a key set for it.  Is it in good enough shape to justify doing that?  I would try to get in touch with the agent and find the previous owner first though.

This company has replacement key switch assemblies for Kymco 50's.  There are others too.

Since it's a 50 you probably won't be hassled for a title, but the previous home owner might have it.

That is not true, personal property must be obtained through the courts. It is in fact theft (along with various other charges) if you take possession of, sell, or alter/tamper with the vehicle ignition system, regardless if it is left/abandoned on your property or not, in the federal govt eyes. Local law may allow you to obtain a salvage or abandoned property title but it must be done through your local courts.

The problem is the legality issues. If the scooter is stolen and abandoned at your house any sales from it would be selling stolen property and whom ever bought items will be receiving, possessing, and buying stolen property. Unfortunately the law does not permit absence of knowledge of ownership when it comes to possession, sales, receiving, or buying stolen property and thus is why you must apply for an abandon title, or in some states you can contact the local state troopers and have them put the VIN into their database to check to see if its stolen or not. Well if its been reported.

Report it as abandoned on your property. State that you are willing to dispose of it properly if not stolen and title can be granted. Wait.

If it was stolen, the original owner will be notified. In that case probably an insurance rep will turn up to take it off your hands. If not in the system as hot, you get to apply for an abandon title, get keys from the dealer and do whatever the hell you like

Not worth all the hassle... "Accidentally" ;) roll it down the street and report to the city an abandoned scooter... they might just come and tow it away for free....

I just talkd to the local authority and they do not have the vin in their theft system. I also check an online theft database and nothing showed up. if anyone wants it for parts, I am willing to sell it.  I live in southeast pa. message me

Or you could just gift it to me, here is the proper way to do this, you PM me, I give you my address, you leave it on my door step and I'll take it from there.

Or you can clean, fix and use it but never claim a right of ownership to it... if asked, just say you borrowed it from the previous owner... it's not stolen as you said, right?  This way you won't have to give it to 08087...
