New Tires
« on: April 12, 2013, 06:30:14 PM »
It is time for me to start thinking about replacement tires for my 2011 Super 8 150cc. However I am having a lot of trouble finding my size tires. My front is a 100/80-14 and the rear is a 120/80-14. I have looked all over the place. I was hoping to get a better quality than the OEM's. Has anyone fund a good source for these tires? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Get bigger tires... ;)  110 up front and 130 or 140 at the rear...

Tires with harder rubber compounds last long but slippery when wet, softer compounds last shorter but very good grip on any surface...

I just bought a new 2013 Super8 150 and they now come stock with a 120/70 R14 front tire so you can probably go with this size which is widely available . Try these: Avon AM63 Viper Stryke , Michelin City Grip Scooter Tires, Michelin Gold Standard Scooter Tires, Pirelli Diablo Scooter tires, Shinko SR567.

I think the bigger problem would be finding a REAR tire in the correct 120/80 - 14 size. All of the tires I've seen of this size are FRONT tires, not rear(there is a difference).

Vivo: Very nice. So this will fit on a stock rim with no modifications? That would be great because there are 140/60/14 rear scooter tires available.

so if I go with a 140/60-14 size back tire, does that mean I would have to go with a 100/60-14 front tire instead of 100/80-14?
Doesn't the 60 indicate the sidewall height?

140/60/14   -    60% of 140 =  84     84mm is the sidewall height

100/80/14   -    80% of 100 = 80      80mm is the sidewall height

Vivo: using your analysis, the  stock front tire on the new Super8 150 is 120/70/14, so the sidewall height would be 70% of 120 = 84mm. Since 84mm is the height of the 140/60/14 rear, they would be the same height. Is that right?

     120/70/14 front :  70% of 120 = 84mm sidewall height
     140/60/14 rear :   60% of 140 = 84mm sidewall height

Yes, that is correct

You're welcome.... also take note that the size of the tire differs when laden, meaning mounted and on the ground.   These figures are for unladen tires.

Vivo: are you presently running the 120/70 front and 140/60 rear combination on your Super8 and if so how does it compare to the stock setup? What brand tire are you using? Thanks.

I think Vivo uses the same CST stock tires as I do @ this point. I'll let him follow-up.
