tried out a GT today
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:44:31 PM »
Been waiting a long time for a local dealer to get a GT.
They finally got one in about a week ago.
Took the wife with me in hopes of a test ride with both of us on board.
Dealer was ok with us ridding it.
Rode it a few miles and up some hills. Power was acceptable and pulled us around pretty good. Combined weight 365 pounds.

Fit and finish on the bike was good.
The only thing that kinda put me off was engine vibes. It was much more pronounced than on my wifes Aprilia 200.
Wonder if that is normal considering the larger engine and more power on the GT.

We went to buy but could not get together on price. Dealer was asking full retail on the GT. He had a Downtown on the showroom floor priced $400. less than the GT. Both were new 2013 models.
This did not make sense to me. He gave a bunch of mumbo jumbo as to why the GT was priced $400. more than the Downtown.
We haggled for a little while and he gave me a price that got me interested. When he tallied up the bill, it was no where close to his quote.
He threw everything on he could think off and ran the price way up.
I made him what I thought was a reasonable offer and he would not budge an inch.
I walked.

I did like the scoot.

Shop around for another dealer. I ended up buying mine 100 miles from home with 3 dealers closer. I got a brand new 2012 for about $1000.00 off MSRP.

Thanks mrmike.
No other dealer within reasonable distance.
It was posted on this website that Kymco was adding more dealerships around the country. So far, I cannot find a listing of new dealers.
We could use a little competition in our area.

ps: Does your GT idle a little rough?.

Boo!

It's not unusual for the OTD (Out-The-Door) Price to be somewhat Higher, anywhere from $500-$1K, depending on the area.

Once they tack on TTL, Freight & Destination, Dealer Prep, Fees, etc., etc., etc...... the Final Price CAN make you skip a Heartbeat!

Last month, I asked a Vespa/Piaggio Dealer about the Cost of a Piaggio BV350.  MSRP was $5,500..... OTD Price with all of the FEES..... $6,500!

I got my '12 GTi300 for $5,700 OTD, and felt that I got a good deal for my area, and the fact that I have bought 3 different Scooters from this Dealer since 2006.

Same Price SHOCK happened with the other 6 Scooters I bought in the past, but I got used to adding $500-$1K, for a more Realistic OTD Price, so I wasn't surprised when it came down to the Paperwork.

Cheers!

Haven't really noticed it, but I only have 150 miles on it so far.

Mike: You scored a great price! I received a "whopping" $200.00 off retail! Fees weren't that bad & they did waive the doc fee @ $150.00. The upside is I did get 1.9% financing (via Kymco/Sheffield) which was sweet.

I think Boo is referring to the GTI300 @ idle. She does "shake" a tad. I have no issues with it myself. BTW...My Shad SH40 top case came in yesterday & I'll make an appt. next week for installation.

have answered some of my questions and given me better insight on prices and making a deal.

One thing still has me puzzled. Why would a new 2013 Downtown be priced $400. less than the 2013 GT?.
They are almost the same machine, engine and drive train.
On average, are people paying $400. more for GT s ?.

Boo: The DT300i is $200.00 more then the GTI300 @ retail, so your dealer isn't not being honest with you. I'm sure he received a better cost or is it 2012 model?

DT300i $5599.00

Gti300 $5399.00

Good Luck & let us know what you do.

Boo

I got my 2012 GTI last year and got 10% off the retail price in May... My out the door cost was(frieght/registration/taxes(7% in RI those bastards!) etc... was about $5400....so its not too bad a price.

It still is a great bike, I had it out this week and it is running strong after a winter in the garage.

WOW!  Don't feel bad... with a Price like that, I'd be Smiling!

My Kymco Dealer in San Antonio, sells a LOT of Scooters, so he doesn't come down on price too much, so anything that he can knock off is a Bonus.  Mine was actually $4900, plus all of the Fees, TTL, Freight....., which came to $5,700 Out-the-Door..... AND..... that's also with the $200 off from Kymco's Military Discount they were running.  At least I'm getting a $100 Gas Card from them for their Promotion, so that keeps me Smilin' too!  After riding the GTi300, it's all BONUS anyway!

Scooter Prices in town are going crazy, so I'm not complaining at all about what I paid.  For instance, the SAME Burgman 400 that I bought in 2007 for $6K, is now over $7K, and that's WITHOUT ABS!  Also, the Vespa/Piaggio Dealer here, wanted $6,500 OTD, for a BV350.  $5,700's looking GOOOOOOOD right now!

Cheers!

I was looking at a 2012 DT and the local dealer in Minneapolis wanted full price plus all costs. I went to a dealer a hour away and got it OTD for $4700. Totally worth the drive, plus the ride home on it was great. 8)

Bought my People GT 300i last month.  I was able to talk the dealer down to $950 off MSRP, i.e. $4449.  That included the $200 military appreciation discount.  After adding freight, set-up, processing fees, tax, title, etc... my OTD cost was $5691.  Oh, and I got the gas card promotion too.  2 $50 visa gift cards, so you don't necessarily need to use them on gas.

I travelled a little ways for my deal too, about 150 miles, mostly because I really wanted a silver one.  I was also intent on buying one in stock, and lucked out that it was a 2012 model.  I think the combination of it being last year's model, the weather still being cold (March is still kind of cold in Maryland), the $200 military promotion and the fact that I was willing to pay in cash led to the dealer giving me the $950 off list.

I've noticed the vibration too, but only when stopped.
