What I said was that if you derestrict your stock CDI you should be fine.
An aftermarket one might allow overrev and valve float.
MotorRandy is right on! here's another explanation...
If your engine was designed to rev for 10,000 rpm and the factory restricted it to run for only 8,000 rpm.... you can derestrict it to get the optimum 10,000 rpm, and still not ruin your engine.
However, if your engine was designed for 10,000 rpm and you installed a CDI with no limiter which can over-rev your engine to 12,000 or 14,000 rpm, then, you will ruin your engine...
