Scooter sat all winter. Stalls and sputters
« on: May 27, 2013, 06:58:16 PM »
Ok, my wife's kymco agility 50 (2013, with only 100 miles on it) sat all winter, and had no fuel stabilizer in it. (I thought she put some in, of the stuff that I bought.) We started it up today, and it will start, sputter, and finally get up to speed, but then if you take it for a ride, it sputters and stalls at stops signs, and you have to restart. The gas tank is full right now.

I'm assuming siphon the gas off as a starter.. and then what? Run the engine to get the rest out? Do we need to clean carb/fuel lines/fuel filter/anything else? (Links to docs on how to do this?)

It's under warranty and we could have the dealer take a look, but we'd have to get it picked up, and that's like going to be $100+ due to the distance to the dealer.
Any help is appreciated.

Frist just drane most the gas and the maybe add a little seafoam to like 1/4 gal of gas and run the scoot tell its gone to see if that help clean things up. you will only need like 1 oz of seafoam.
if that dont work ya a good cleaning of the carb and gas lines will do it. you can do a search on this form to show you anything you need to know. even youtub can help.

Small engines do that after storage... usual cause is a gummed or clogged idle jet... Do what blue suggested to clear those clogged lines...

Fuel injection is not exempted from gum and varnish...  ;)  Better than carb tho... but once it fails, you don't drain your tank, you drain your wallet...
